Jean...
I can't believe it....a Sephora only 40 miles from me?!? Woo hoo!

NEW YORK (AP) -- JC Penney Co. said Tuesday it will open Sephora stores

Jamie...

Does everyone just relate to the old Penney's? Walking through the
store I saw items so similar to Target's knockoffs of better brands.
Why doesn't Penney's get the same respect?

Veronica Moonlit...
Because JC Penney doesn't have a gallicized nickname the fashionistas
can call it so they don't feel embarassed to shop there. :-)

I suggest "Zhaysee Pennay"

They really do have some pretty things, especially in the Uniquely You
(clothes for the Chico's set) and OnTrend catalogs. They even use
actual plus size models in their plus size specialog. And they
actually have a good sized plus collection, unlike Tarzhay. Their own
house brand shoes are better quality than Tarzhay's too.

I thought it was because at Penney's you couldn't pick up the dog food
and detergent the same time you got your cool Isaac Mizrahi clothes.
I agree; I don't think it's snobbery. I felt the same way with Land's End
when they made a deal with Sears (my enmity for them goes back years!). And
my experience was that the exposure Sears gave Land's End here was short
shrift. It was more like they purchased the name, thus trying to trade on
the popularity to get you into the store(since Sears has almost none), then
felt they didn't have to have much selection. I hope this isn't the same

Land's End has been a disaster.
I've gone into Sears (much as I loathe the place) looking for a jacket,
and walked out disgusted.

kind of deal.

I'm actually very impressed with the new Lands' End Shop at Sears.
Since the one opened in Watchung NJ recently, I've stopped in several
times.

"Three years after Sears placed Lands' End clothing on racks throughout
its stores, the company is experimenting with a new approach: Lands'
End stores within the stores.
The only such store in the Midwest was launched in March at the Sears
at West Towne Mall in Madison. Three others opened late last year in
New York and New Jersey Sears stores.

The store-within-a-store consolidates nearly all of Lands' End products
into one area of the store, an effort to make shopping easier for
customers, Lands' End spokeswoman Jackie Schutty said.

Besides children's clothing, the Lands' End shop at Sears includes
departments for men, women and home, and a shoe department. Walls in
the shop are painted navy blue and white, and marked with large, white
Lands' End logos.

The latest catalogs are available on a coffee table. Shoppers can place
online orders on a computer and have items shipped free to their homes.
Or they can use a phone to be connected to a customer-service
representative in Dodgeville."

And I was hoping it would actually be a store-within-a-store rather than
just taking over a few counters. Why couldn't they set it up like their
salons where it's a separate area?

Because that would make sense?

within its department stores starting this fall, under an agreement with
the high-end cosmetics retailer aimed at luring young female customers.

Veronica Moonlit...
Praised be! There is not a single Sephora south of I-80.

The Squid and the Spangle...
Which is better? Sephora or Ulta? We only have Sephora here, but I've met
people out of state who say Ulta is great.

Veronica Moonlit...
It seems to me, that AFers who have access to both, shop at both and
love them both pretty equally.

Sephora will open "store-within-stores" and be the exclusive seller of

I was just in Penny's today and right now Dermablend is the only
cosmetic line in the store. There are some Perlier and other bath and
body products. They've filled the space of the existing cosmetics dept.
with other items to make it not look empty. We just got a Sephora a few
months ago so these will be in direct competition.

beauty products in JCPenney, which has been trying to shed its image as
a middle-market department store operator with younger, more modern
merchandise and marketing.

Sephora, which is owned by Paris-based luxury goods maker LVMH Moet
Hennessy Louis Vuitton, operates more than 500 stores worldwide selling
high-end cosmetics, perfume and other beauty products from different brands.

Under the agreement, each JC Penney Sephora will be located in the
department store center and feature the display cases and trained
salespeople who work in standalone Sephora stores.

Sephora will also be the exclusive online beauty products seller on
Penney's Web site through a link to its store from Sephora.com from
JCP.com, which recently posted $1 billion in annual revenue.

JC Penney said the agreement with Sephora reflected its strategy of
reaching out to young women, which represents a "significant and rapidly
growing factor."

Shares of JC Penney shed 13 cents to $58.34 on the New York Stock Exchange.
