ahmward...
I finally saw Brokeback Mountain and it is the first time I have

ahmward...
This is the book I ordered today. The original story was published in
the New Yorker in 1997 but my husband said he read it in a book he
borrowed from someone he worked with a few years ago. That's why I
couldn't find it when I was looking for it this afternoon.

shinypenny...
Thanks - I am hitting the library shortly to stock up for my upcoming
trip. If it's not in stock there, I'll probably have to wait until I
get back later this month to order online.

I have two English degrees, a BA from UCLA and a MA with an emphasis in
American literature from CSULB. I just don't let them get in the way of
my enjoyment of a good movie or book.

shinypenny...
That's good for you! I wish it was the same for me. Did you concentrate
in writing too?

Maybe that's the difference for me. I can't help but edit what I read,
work through in my mind how to make the story better, hearing my
professor's voice in my head urging me on to really take a risk with
that minor character and flesh him out some more. Ironically I long ago

ahmward...
jjjjjulie, I understand your point of view about not wanting to see this
type of movie right now. My recent favorite films all seem to be sad.
Rumor Has It is light and fun. In her Shoes is coming out on dvd
tomorrow. Have you seen the Constant Gardener? It is an excellent movie
IMO and I think it is out on dvd. Glory Road or Wallace & Gromit may
even be more appealing right now than some of the other current movies.

jjjjjuliep...
Audrey, thank you very much for the good thoughts and the suggestions.
I saw The Constant Gardener when it came out (with a friend who is a
fellow Ralph Fiennes fiend ;-) ) and really liked it--more than my

Saving SilverSpangliekin...
Cool. Now I feel better about buying Flightplan off Amazon. Did you like the
little baby penguins? Weren't they the most precious ever? OMG, they were
just so sweet!

David RL Gärtner, RMT...
yeah, they were cute.

are this kid's parents?"

friend did actually. And I have Wallace and Gromit on my Netflix list
in the first slot :-). I'll check out the other ones too.

The biggest escape of all is that we will be leaving for Florida next
Wednesday for 10 days in the sun and Disney and Daytona, including
doing the dolphin swim at Seaworld's Discovery Cove. :-) The
setting, the weather, and the company will be an excellent tonic.

Jamie...
This Wednesday or next week? If this Wednesday - I'm so there! I'll beam
good thoughts your way!

jjjjjuliep...
We leave next week--thanks for the good thoughts and I hope you have
great weather!

Thanks again--now I have some movies to add to the top of my list (once
I get my new DVD player hooked up ;-) ).

realized I'd never be a published author for just this reason: you
never get anywhere as a writer if you're constantly editing as you go
along! (except frustrated).

But I should admit short stories aren't really my favorite - I vastly
prefer novels because when I get into a character and a story, I hate
to see it end too soon! Which all makes sense to me why this movie,
being based on a short story, would have left me flat. It's not a "oh,
I hate that" but more a "gee, that was so good.... but I want MORE!"

understood the true meaning of cinematography. The movie is so
beautiful, not just from the standpoint of the story, but the camera
makes so many scenes a work of art. I loved it and know I will see it
more than once. My only complaint is those darn cowboys can be so hard
to understand.

Jean...
King Kong, what an action packed movie~!

shinypenny...
We just saw this last night, and I was a bit disappointed, probably
because it had so much hype so my expectations were too high! It
reminded me very much of Lost in Translation, which I also didn't like
all that much - kind of heavy and plodding.

But mostly, I kept thinking that I'd really love to see the story told
next from the wive's point of view. I felt so sorry for both of them,
to have their lives cheated like that. I guess I had a hard time
sympathizing with the lovers, since they were cheating their wives out
of a real marriage.

We also recently saw Hustle & Flow and I liked that very much. And
Enron is truly excellent. I usually get restless with documentaries,
but not with this one. It's a must see.
