This summer the youngest child is moving to her own apartment so she
needs lots of stuff. The middle child has been renting for two years
and the boy is moving to a rental house. Needless to say I don't have
enough extra stuff for three additional households.

Last summer I bought my son a LE navy, lighter blue and white large
striped spread for the bed at home, a tan blanket and coordinating sham.
He has navy and white wallpaper and a beautiful picture of a military
ship so the room looks quite good. Lest you think it's perfect, one
wall is corkboard with movie posters, concert tickets and other assorted
stuff.

We went to the outlets today and she bought a lot of kitchen stuff that
will be supplemented with items from Wal-Mart, Target and home. She
wants a red or green comforter but the one at Lauren was $160. We've
been to Linens n Things, Bed, Bath and Beyond, Wal-Mart and Target.
There are two she liked but are there good on line sources. What is the
current feeling about Overstock.com? I've ordered twice and haven't had
problems but they were no brainer purchases.

can she deal with a red/coral one? I know you like to shop at LL
Bean...look online here:
maybe even a comforter cover would do if you've got a spare blanket?

Thanks! I'm in the market for a red comforter, as well. I didn't think
to check LL Bean even though I've been shopping at the one at Tyson's
Corner frequently. It's even on sale! Looks like a nice true, bright
red. That's been my problem. I keep finding burgundies but no bright
cheery reds unless they've got patterns on them and that's not what I'm
looking for.

I told her you would all come through with suggestions. She, too, is
looking for a pure bright red and loves L.L. Bean. We haven't hit Ross,
Marshalls or TJ Maxx. The temperature has been over 100 degrees and
after the stores I mentioned and the outlet center today, I just
couldn't go to another store. You don't want to know how many household
items I've bought in the past week. It's somewhat complicated but the
middle child has all of her brother's things because he was living at
home when she went away to law school. It was easier to ship all of his
stuff to her and because he is so fussy about things, all the furniture
matched from IKEA and a lot of the kitchen things are from Williams
Sonoma. She, however, likes retro stuff so she is giving her sister his
WS white dishes and taking brown stoneware I had in the 80s. He is
using my turquoise and brown stoneware purchased in the early 90s. The
one who needs the comforter likes primary colors. Luckily the boy will
take my old family room furniture and a complete bedroom set donated by
my husband's partner. Those of you think it's expensive to have kids in
elementary or high school, just wait. All three are taking out loans
for their post grad education but we are helping with their households.

Audrey, I used to receive a catalog from domestications. They have a
website with red coverlets, I checked under bedding. Actually, quite a
are reasonable.

I have also had good luck with Overstock, and along the same lines,
SmartBargains.com. They always have tons of bedding. You already know how
I feel about Tuesday Morning -- it's only the best store ever!! Okay that's
an overstatement but I love it and always find good things.
On the high end, I like H.D. Buttercup, which is a furniture co-op in LA.
The prices there run the gamut but most things are on the high end. At a
recent sale though, I got Italian sheets -- shocking fuchsia -- for $95. I
thought it would be an interesting complement to my cowhide bed, and I gotta
say... it does look good! If you are ever in LA, I'd highly recommend a
trip to this unique and interesting store.
