How would you have dressed Candace Bergen to make her look presentable for
the Emmys?

First off, CB has dressed so well for so long that I forgive her for
this outfit, which is sadly unflattering. Sleeves are too big,
skirt too mermaidy shaped, belt too jarring. She needed
a dark color, with slim sleeves, and an A-line-ish skirt.
Or a suit. She looks great in suits.
A more tailored white shirt, with a skirt in a better shape,
even in that same color, and a belt slung long over the
untucked shirt would have looked a lot better.

I was glad to read this post, because I forgive her too. Didn't Tyra
look a little bit larger too?
I give her props for dressing the way she wanted in spite of her more
mature figure. I thought her choice was interesting. There were many
who looked worse, in my opinion!

Paula Abdul looked pretty weird in the pictures I saw. Also, as to others,
I don't really understand the excess of chest thing -- maybe I'm fashion

I consulted my copy of "The Pocket Stylist", and CB in that photograph
looks like a type D (narrow or sloping shoulders, small to med bust,
full waist, wide hips). The general recommendation is to create a
focal point above the waist and broaden the appearance of the shoulder
line. This was the first thing that came to my mind--her face was very
attractive, and that should have been emphasized. No wonder her outfit
looked so awful, with the poufy sleeves and belt focussing attention at
waist/hip level.
(Now if I can just get down to brass tacks, and go through my closet
with the aid of this book as I've been intending.)

Do you have a link to a picture of her at the Emmys? I have seen several
references to her attire, but can't find a photo.

Not sure how I would have dressed her.....but it wouldn't be like that!
That outfit is not flattering her figure at all. The belt and bunchiness
make her waist look thick.

Perhaps a chocolate brown or black satin pantsuit with a cami/shell of
a contrasting color. With brown, perhaps a matte gold satin. No
necklace, only drop earrings with citrine stones. With the black, a
silvery grey shell. Drop earrings again with another type of gemstone.
Saw a pantsuit at the Bloomingdale site that did not have front
buttons, but tied at the side.
What do you think, JR?? What suggestions would you make??

I think a dark brown dress with long sleeves, very form-fitting sleeves and
bodice with a fairly deep (but not overly wide) vee at the neck, fullish
skirt (not that peacock tail type) that had a vee front .
I'd want the vee neck and the sleeves trimmed in a bronze colour, and bronze
accessories.
A necklace and earrings that would draw the eyes away from the waist would
help, as would an upsweep hair do.
Or a tunic in a pretty green over slim darker green pants to give the
illusion that she had a figure under it.

repressed, but I think women generally look much prettier showing *modest*
cleavage than showing the max that is allowed on tv.
Gofugyourself.com has a funny closeup of Tyra Banks' hairline/wigline in its
Emmy section.
