Pro-Activ: Yes or No?

EMiriamD...
My son, who recently returned from a semester in Australia, says
*everyone* he met there swears by Pro-Activ; it's advertised regularly
on Australian TV. I searched the web for Pro-Activ and there haven't been any posts
since 2004, so I thought I'd ask for up-to-date reports because my son
wants to start an acne regimen.

For the record, he's already been to the dermatologist, who eventually
put him on Accutane, to which he had a bad reaction and had to come off
it. He was also on a long-term antibiotic regimen but took himself off
it when it didn't seem to do much. I agree with him that at this point
he should focus on trying to find a good topical acne skin care system.

Any thoughts on Pro-Activ or other topical regimen?

April...
I developed Adult Acne at 25. I had regular glycolic facials and it
was under control. I had to stop the facials when I started a new job
in Monterey and couldn't get to Salinas. I started using the PA stuff
about 3 years ago (at age 30) and have been very happy. My skin looks
good. There are days I can even NOT use a concealer. I have other
friends who swear by it. It does dry you out at first, but your skin
adjusts. I just use it Once a day instead of twice and I find that
works best. You can purchase a kit on QVC or through the PA site. I
do not do the Auto-Delivery as I find that I don't use the products
equally. I just ordered a new travel set for $15, which works great
when I hit the road for work.

Anyway...for the $20 it costs to try it...I say do it.

I've never used it but I've checked into different forums online. My
impression is that the overwhelming majority of people claimed that
Pro-Active made them break out more, not less. The only non-Rx line I've
ever seen with predominantly positive reviews for acne control is Obagi,
which I've never tried.

EM: I read several times over that Jessica Simpson swears by the PR
program. A couple others celebs do also, ohhhh Vanessa Williams is

she's one of their spokespeople, too. IOW, she gets paid to say
good things about it.
