AJ...
I know that most afers' brief infatuation with chick lit has
gone the way of, well, say, that pink-gold gloss, but
"In Her Shoes" (which as I recall as a book slightly better
than most of the genre) is a really superb movie. It's

i watched it today based on your recommendation; now it's on my list of
movies i recommend! good film; thanks very much.

directed by the guy who directed "LA Confidential"--
I didn't know that.

DWACON...
It is sitting in my Tivo waiting to be watched.

Obviously, once again, I'm late to the party on seeing
this, but it's worth seeing (and on HBO).

The scene where the blind professor who encourages
Cameron Diaz to read is really quite moving. Doesn't
hurt that what she reads is probably one of my ten
favorite poems ever written (Elizabeth Bishop's villanelle,
"The Art of Losing."

It's not terribly preoccupied with fashion, but the
Toni Collette character has a closet of fierce shoes.
And there's a discussion of Jimmy Choos.

DH saw this on a plane and expressed surprise at how much he enjoyed it.

DH and I watched it last week, and I agree with you. I
read that Toni Collette gained 25 lbs before the movie was
made and gradually lost it during the filming, as her character
became more self-confident. (Collette is also in "Little Miss
Sunshine" - which we liked a lot.)
