I was reading thread about Target knock off handbags. I liked those
straw totes. I noticed they don't have zipper tops.

Is anyone else like this? I feel I want a zipper top for greater
security.

Jamie...
I absolutely love the straw handbags and purchase one or two every single
summer. I like the 'freeform' feel and look of the open top as well as the
ease of dropping things in at will. Sometimes with DS's (2 and 5) my hands
are rarely free and fast is best! That said, I am sick and tired of these
purses flying out of the seat or dumping in the floorboard of my truck every
time I round a corner! And I can never reach the stuff until I stop so it
gets scattered all around and some things temporarily lost. (I've also
found some things I'd forgotten were in there!)

So I do kind of look now for tops that are more secure. But they're not
always easy to find and I will settle for the open ones.

Sew or glue grosgrain ribbons to the sides in the middle and tie them.

Not quite as good as a zipper, but you can untie the ribbons with one
yank and they will help with the spillage problem as well as give some
security.

Jamie...
Very, very good idea - especially since I'm capable of both sewing and
gluing!

You're welcome.

I really look for zipper or closed tops but occasionally give in and buy
a handbag without a secure closure. I have a summer Isabella Fiore,
looks like fine straw in a neutral color with white beading and lime
accents that zippers across the top. The type of bag like the one in
the link from Target though is one you could take to the beach and stuff
with a towel, sunscreen and book
