We spent a couple of hours this morning at the kitchen/bath showroom
picking out ceramic tile for the floor, countertop, wall tile,
hardware for drawers and cupboards, grout color, deciding various
things. It wasn't easy! You look at itty bitty samples and try and
close your eyes and imagine how the whole room will look. I finally
chose, we left, and a couple of hours later the saleswoman called and
said the countertop I picked was no longer made! Now we go back
tomorrow and do the whole thing over again.
Maybe it's just as well. I fell in love with a mottled green floor,
so picked a dark green countertop and light green tile for walls. But
when it comes to selling the house, some may not like a green kitchen.
So I guess it's not a matter of what I like, but picking out something
neutral that anyone can live with. I will be awake all night tonight
deciding if I want to go with the green and a different green
countertop or getting a beige floor, beige wall tile, brown countertop

heheheh
Most men could pick out floor tile, wall tile and a counter top on 5 minutes
and be done with it.

Yes, but what would it look like? Actually there are a lot of
men with very good taste, but I think you would need a little more
time than that. You have to pick a grout color too and a wall color.

etc. :-( RATS!!!!!

FWIW, I'd *hate* a neutral kitchen. Decorate to suit yourself, unless
you've been told you have terrible taste. If you love it, there's a
better chance someone else will, too.

Go for what you like!!!!!!!!! When/if you sell it's not going to hold a
buyer back if the house itself fits their needs and wants.

I couldn't find another green countertop that I liked. :-( They were
too pale or too shiny, or too dark, etc. But I think kitchens are
very important to a woman and if it's a color she absolutely can't
stand it could affect the sale of the house. For instance I don't
think I could live with a red countertop.

Oh no! All that effort for naught.
Reminds me of how I bought a cabinet for the downstairs
bathroom, thinking I was gonna get some nice flooring I had
seen, and, of course, the flooring was no longer available.
Good luck today.
BTW, the place where I worked had a huge and wonderful
kitchen--grass green and white.
BTW2, here everyone seems to want granite/marble counters and
hard wood cabinets.... Maybe you should read the RE ads (esp.
those that seem to include updated Ks) a bit if you are
thinking about resale.

Don't worry about a future sale. As long as the outside looks good,
all mechanical things work and the inside colors aren't outrageous, it
will sell. Anyone who buys will change it all anyway. :)
Try Glidden.com and you can see what some color combinations will look
like in various rooms.

Oh this is fun! I'm creating some color combos I would never try in
real life and some of them look darned good! :-) Thanks Norma. :-)

I'd so love to redo my kitchen!!
But for a start, I am having the side room converted into a walk-in
pantry :o)

You may recall the saga I posted about our tile floors last year. In
fact, Suzanne and I had looked at tile for several years and never could
decide on anything. (In our area, you can bring home entire tiles or
more to look at in the house... but you are trusted to bring them back.)
We finally got exasperated one day and simply gave up and said... give
of 800 square feet of "that"... so we came home with what we pointed at.
It's always a tuff choice unless you can afford a "designer" who will
also remodel the whole thing for you at great cost.
