The thread with Maine in it sparks stories.
About 1982 my lady, Elly, and I went to Maine on a short vacation.
Remember driving on a road that had four signs stacked up (numbers are
made up)
202 North 173 West 185 East 671 South
All four signs on one pole.
Came to a ferry. Had to wait - ran every 45 minutes or so.
Ordered chowder. 25 minutes later still no chowder.
Ask where is chowder?
Get a look and we are told "we are making it"
They made it fresh every time!
It was great and we still made the ferry.
Same trip. At friend's place.
Phone conversation: Want Lobster when you get here? YES
Get there. Visit a while and a BTW lobster is not ready yet. Why?
Lobster boat has not come back yet!

I read somewhere that corn has now been "breed" to stay "fresher" (sweet) much
longer theses days. I can remember learning what fresh corn tasted liked when
I moved out of the city. Could not believe the difference.

Yup. That's my idea of fresh corn, too. Yum!

My Dad would always holler up to the cottage to tell my mother when to turn
the frying pan on, based on how close he was to having the bass cleaned.

bass cleaned. <<
That's why those shore dinners on fishing trips are so good.
I am also convinced that washing fish too much removes the flavor.

What a great trip.

The real Mainers are VERY laid back!! There's no way you're going to hurry
them! I'm not a real Mainer, I've only been here 32 years!! (>:
