Jean B....
Okay Joan et al., why won't T'bird remember my settings? It's
rather annoying to keep having to remind it that I want to
read by subject (or date) and that I don't want the messages
to be threaded. Other than that, I seem to be settling in.

david...
are you saying that you set it to show unthreaded and when you restart it's
threaded? or do you expand threads and then the next time they're
collapsed?

Jean B....
I keep setting them up to show subject (or date--I vacillate)
unthreaded, and when I go back to the groups (about half of
them, anyway), they are sorted by order posted and threaded. Odd.

Also, now in some groups, when I go to the group, a message
opens, and other times it doesn't. I prefer NOT to have
messages opening automatically, because they may contain
something nefarious. Also, then if I don't see that,
something I have saved might be marked "read".

High Miles...
What version are you using ?

Are you using the drop down box to make choice changes or the one that
comes down when you click on VIEW ?

Also
It's good to leave the program alone after you make changes, until all the
messages received with the earlier settings are gone.
Having some with old instructions and some with new may confuse the
program.

Jean B....
I assume I am using the latest version, since I just
downloaded it. Oh wait! I downloaded it a while ago, and
then installed it a few days ago, so I suppose it might be
slightly out of date. I forget. How do I check the versions
of T'bird (and Firefox)?

High Miles...
Click on HELP and then ABOUT for version.

I had been using the drop-down menu. That may be a good tip
about changing the settings--but I almost always have
left-over messages. (I tend to save ones that I want to
ponder more or that require longer answers.)

Thanks for the clues!

High Miles...
I've been using Tbird and Firefox for a couple of years and the latest
version is the least..........................buggy.

Jean B....
Thanks. Odd, but I am 1.5.07 of each. I wonder why Firefox
told me I had the latest copy (after folks said 2.0 was out)?

High Miles...
I'm still on 1.5.07 as well. Hadn't heard about a 2.0 - but I don't get
around that much any more.
Bet you'll get it to work for you eventually.

Chakolate...
I'm not in any hurry to get Firefox 2.0. I've heard very negative things
about it, that it hasn't fixed the memory leak being the worst.

I'm happy waiting for the bugs to get worked out and the extensions to
get mended before upgrading.

Jean B....
Crud! That's the one reason I don't use Firefox as my primary
browser!!!! It has been a problem for a LONG time. I wonder
why they haven't fixed it?

Chakolate...
I have selected a setting that minimizes the memory on minimizing the
program, so I minimize it from time to time. Still, it would be nice not
to have to do that.

I don't know why they haven't fixed it, since it's a well-known bug.

High Miles...
Probably because not enough people complained.
I've simply had no problems with it at all.
Ran it on a 98 machine before and XP now. Still works fine.

Jean B....
I have had various editions of Firefox for a long time. Like
you, this was first on Win 98. Actually, I was a bit
surprised to read of the memory leak, because if it is still
there, it is not as obvious as it was before. Used to be that
if I left Firefox open for any length of time, it would ?lock
up?. It was most annoying and drove me back to Netscape.

Frogman...
You can get Firefox 2.00 from here,
