david...
dang, i was just reading the recently announced specs from microsoft for
their new windows vista, due out 'sometime'... maybe year end or
2007.... that's not unusual... but what frustrates me is that the
hardware requirements always go UP... and what is published is never
enough...

Chakolate...
Don't think that's not by design. Bigger Windows means more computer,
more computer means you can use more software, using more software means
you want bigger drivers and options, which means more computer, which
means more Windows, which means more computer. Everybody profits except
for the poor sod stuck with last year's computer.

But the free market, being what it is, means there's always
alternatives.

That applies also to the new Internet Explorer. It works too slowly on
my machine so I am using Firefox.

- remember windows 3.1? was to run in 4 meg... well, it would boot, but
that's about it...

- remember windows 95? was to run in 16 meg... but it usually took 64 or
128 meg...

- remember winXP? was supposed to run in 128meg... but it normally takes
512 meg..

- so, the new version due out by this time next year is supposed to run
fine with 512 meg... somehow, i'm thinking people will need at least 2
or 3 gigabytes for that...

special graphics capabilities are also required..

somehow, i have this feeling that copies of WindowsXP are going to be
very valuable 3-4 years from now... :) winXP pro is supported through
2012 and i'm glad i made that choice... changing to new operating
systems is fun... but only briefly... within 3-4 years our mick may
have his own private jet, flying around the world to help people convert
from windows to linux... i just hope he remembers us, his friends...:)

mmj29...
Oh, I hope Mick remembers all of us, too.

**Dalin**...
I'll even throw you some peanuts.
