What is the average of 6,8,2,4?
Chakolate...
|
Unless this is a trick question, it's five.
Lonestar...
|
It is a question on an application my son in law is filling out.

Anne Jackson...

The answer is 5. If you don't know how to work it out,
you add the numbers, and divide by the number of numbers, IYSWIM?
6+8+2+4 + 20 / 4 = 5

Chak is right. What sort of application is it?

Lou...

As Joy asked. What kind of job??
Lonestar...
|
A job application.

but... 5 is the easy answer... ...
-where i grew up in arkansas, we were sorta' free in how we used
commas... cudda been 6,824, 68.24.... 5 iz just too eezy...
- and mebbe the hiring company doesn't know the answer and anything would
be acceptable... in that case, I'd answer 4.2E6
- maybe it's a trick question. for example, maybe the job is one where
they don't want anyone too smart... it looks like they hope you'll
answer '2' so if the job doesn't require math, answering 2 might ensure
he gets the job. I'd be suspicious of someone who answered 5... (who duze
he thank thet he iz? einstein? see!)
- my suggestion would be to avoid the answer and diagram the sentence
instead. now that would impress them... :)

Thank you. Colton is doing good. We keep him tomorrow, I will try to
slow him down long enough to get a picture.

That would be great Robert! You are lucky, we never get a chance to
keep Evan. They are afraid the dog will nip him as she's still a
puppy and we are afraid he will catch her and squash her.

No, average is average. There are three different things - average, mean
and median. I used to know what all of them were. I still know average,
and I think I know median. I'm not sure about mean.
|
|
I think you're right about the median but I thought the mean was the
numbers added together then divided by how many numbers there are.
Who was it said this was dumbing down? LOL!

And then there's mode and range?
No wonder I hated math!
