What is java and do I need it on my computer? I seem to have 6 different
versions.

using and also download newest version. i sometimes find old versions
aren't removed when new versions are installed, but only the new one is
being used. older versions of Windows used a product called "Virtual
Machine", but microsoft dropped it after a license dispute with Sun
Computing. you can also go to your Control Panel in windows, where there
will be a Java entry if a version is installed. current version is 1.5.0_

Hmmm. "Virtual Machine", abbreviated VM, wasn't that a concept that IBM
came up with on their bigger main frames in the early 1970's?

the beauty of tekkie terms is that when one vendor stops using it, other
