JD Cooper...
I know that you folks in more northerly climes see ice all the time, but
here it is a novelty. I snapped a few pics of things that caught my eye.

JD

david...
you have such a great eye for composition, JD... beautiful shots. my heart
goes out to those cows who are wondering what happened... .. thanks for
sharing these... :)

PS: again, I made them all small at 800X600... sighs.. I wish dial-ups
would become extinct!

mmj1...
Thanks for sharing your ice world. Beautiful pictures but I hate that the
birds are so cold. I guess you can't order little bird shoes like you can
for a little dog. :-)

Marilee...
Birds can take a lot of cold. It's the lack of food that gets them.

I saw a marsh hawk in a field the other day. They're usually not around
here in the winter. Jim said he's seen them often this year, but with so
little snow cover, the food source is still available.

By the same token, a couple of winters ago we saw snowy owls frequently. I
read that the food source in Canada where they usually winter was not
abundant, so they'd come further south. Haven't seen a one the past two
winters, so things must be better further north for them.

JD,

Nice photo's of a not so nice subject. Sounds the storm stretched all the
way from the West Coast to the East Coast. Kind of rare.
Oh, dial up is almost extinct here:-)

Sue...
I love your birdhouse
But, the picture of the cows disturbed me.
We are expecting freezing rain...aka sleet, tonight. And of course I am
worried about the calfs.

**Dalin**...
Those pictures are beautiful! Loved the wren house in the ice - poor
little wren. And I got a chuckle out of your boot birdhouse, that's
cute.

Actually we get much more snow here than ice and probably only have an
ice storm once every two years. We have a lot of icicles that hang
on the house, some over the front door, too high to reach with the
broom and of course we are always worried about us or guests getting
conked on the head. But a real ice storm is rare here.

Jean B....
I sometimes knock them down--but they can be hard to reach.

Marilee...
When I was a kid, I used to love to knock down icicles. Of course, they
don't always form here: the weather has to be warmish, and buildings that
get big icicles generally have a smaller amount of insulation in the
rafters/roof. I remember loving to suck on them like Nature's Popsicle,
and groups of us having contests as to who could make theirs the sharpest.

Chakolate...
Ooh, nice flashback. Thanks, Marilee.

Of course, Mom always got after me because of the danger, but I was a child
and ignored her (unless she could see me). Later on, when I was in high
school, I actually met a boy who had lost an eye because of a falling
icicle. It was a sobering moment.

Marilee...
Actually, it was a guy that was supposed to be terribly smart. (I was
unimpressed with his smarts; we were in classes together.) I always
wondered why he'd been dumb enough to stand right underneath the icicles
****and look up at them**** while he was knocking them down.

But then, sometimes I'm not terribly understanding.....

Marilee

Jean B....
Heh--or perhaps you are more understanding....

Marilee...
I like you a lot, Jean. You're a clear thinker! ;)

Chakolate...
Yup - even with only one brain cell working. ;-)

Hey, do you supposed it divided and now you have two???

Jean B....
OOOOOH! I LIKE that. I'll have to use it on Leah!!!!

Marilee

Jean B....
That was clear enough--even for me! And ditto.

Jean B....
Eeek! Of course we KNOW such things can happen, but we still
tend to think they won't happen to us. Leah does like to eat
them....

Arch (TX)...
Those are really neat JD. I especially like the cactus plant with its
spines encased in ice. Quite a unique picture. They were all very good
shots. Thanks

Jean B....
Poor cows! Boy, you have/had quite a lot of ice. You're very
lucky to have kept your power!

Annie...
Thanks JD, mighty fine shots..wonder what became of the wren. Know those
poor cows must be unhappy...
Annie

JD Cooper...
thanks for the complimenst, guys... but these are little more than snap
shots, really.

all the ice is gone today.

happy! happy! happy!

Joy...
Great photos, JD! Thanks for sharing them, especially since it apparently

dae...
JD,

Yeah, for you snapshot's but not for most of us:-) They are works of art.

mmj1...
