I've come to detest when a good reliable company sells out. Case in
point - KitchenAid.
I had one of their portable dishwashers for 27 years. Mu husband
replaced the hoses once or twice and that was all the maintainence
needed. Now I wouldn't own one if it was free.

I do so agree, Norma, about KitchenAid (and most other
companies that do so). The KA mixers were wonderful when
made by Hobart. Now I gather they are prone to failure. I
just don't understand that rationale of those who buy
companies only to then ruin the products that gave them their
reputation (and customers and cash) to begin with.

When did KitchenAid sell out?
I have a mixer I bought about eight years ago. Is it a good one or did I
buy it too late?
Jean B....
|
A LONG time ago. I think it may even have been back in the
80s--or mebbe Norma is referring to some recent sale?
Look to see who made it, JD. I suspect that KAs have only
gotten worse as time passes, so there are prolly tiers of
"goodness". I wish I had my grandmother's or my mom's.
Grandma's had a glass bowl. I forget what happened to that.
Maybe my sister had it and got rid of it. My mom's old KA was
a work horse (funny thing to say to YOU ). I THINK mine is
a Hobart, and I THINK I got it just before they sold out,
which is why I think that might have been in the 80s, assuming
I got it after I got back from Japan.

H-m-m-m-m-m. Funny thing... I never saw a KA with a glass bowl, so that
must have been a serious antique. Well, this one is my second KA, the
first I bought for the Old Lady in the late seventies and it got eaten
by calamity along with some other stuff. The one I have now *seems* like
the same machine, but maybe if I got to using it heavily every day it
might shake out to be a poor imitation. It is heavy, tho.. which is why
I did not suspect anything was amiss. One thing's for sure tho, and that
is they come in different power (wattage) models and I'd expect a 250
watt mixer to not do as well as, say a 350 watt machine. Mine's a 300
watt version.

Now I'm gonna have to check mine out when I get home. (I'm
about to leave for a while.)
Yes, the one with the glass was OLD! My grandfather was a
mechanical engineer, and he worked on some industrial kitchen
installations, which somehow involved Hobart....
I wonder what the wattage of mine is? I think some break down
when kneading dough and such.

follows function' here. i have a new troy-bilt tractor, so please tell me
what skeletons might be in the closet... :)

myself. I am chagrined!

Heh! Yes... the great and all powerful Texas Calamity Lizard! You never
know it's coming nor do you know what shape it might take. Sometimes it
comes in the shape of a tornader, sometimes a hurry-cane, sometimes a
fire, sometimes baseball sized hail... but whatever shape it takes, it
is always a force to be dealt with and it *must* be fed!
Two be franc, We had several calamities hit us in the eighties... but it
was no big deal 'cause we got out of them quite well and all we lost was
some buildings and machines and some critters. One just deals with it,
ya know? (Which is why I left the North Texas Prairies in the late 80's
for better climes here.)
