Paco..........
This year, it could cost you to use your debit card. It costs money to
process those transactions and right now the merchants are adding that

Marilee...

Marilee...
It's probably a different rate for merchants than for insurance companies.
I was flying by the seat of my pants above.

Bill and Judy Jenkins...

david...
aha! are you the one who put an email on the blog about the Seattle
manager?.. LOLOL.... (it's been removed....)

Bill and Judy Jenkins...
I have no idea what you are talking about.
Exxon stations in Louisiana at one time had a cash price and a credit card
price. That was several years ago though and I never bought that brand
anyway so I don't know how it is now.

JerryD\(upstateNY\)...
Bill,

david...
there was a post on the blog the other day, asking who was the Seattle
manager?... and it was signed by bill jenkins... :)

Bill and Judy Jenkins...
Nah, wasn't me. I know who the Seattle manager is and don't envy them at
all
Bill

I saw this a lot in Florida.
It makes sense.
The banks charge about 7¢ a gallon for using their credit cards, why not
give it to the customer if he pays cash ?
The gas stations had big signs showing the price of gas if you pay cash,
which was 7¢ or so below the other stations.
I use Quickbooks, which is also great.

Marilee

cost to the price of the products. But that may change. There may be a
fee to use your debit card.

david...
i'm not aware of any merchants doing that. in fact, our bank gives *US*
money (real money) when we use our debit card as a credit card - that's
because it's saving money for the bank, not the merchant. we use our card a
lot - sure saves on writing checks or carrying cash.

Beth...
Same here, david...When I use my debit card as a credit card I get "perks"

mmj1...
Actually you are almost forced to use your debit card. My daughter hung out
as a check writer longer than I did but the obvious annoyance of people in
line behind her as she wrote her check. Plus it was also obvious the clerk
didn't want to do it either.

Chakolate...
A student of mine from Australia had never written a check before when he
wrote one to me. I had to show him how to do it. He was in his 30s. He
said nobody uses checks in Oz.

Jean B....
I, dino, have never used my bank card as a debit card. I pay
in cash. I sometimes pay with a check, but that is never at
the grocery store--or at the usual retail stores, for that

Joy...
Some businesses do everything they can to discourage your using checks. I
made the mistake for writing a check for a purchase at Fry's once. The
woman looked at the check, looked at my driver's license, looked at me, and
repeated the process several times. Then she said, "I'll be right back" and
took off with my check and my driver's license. Ten or 15 minutes later she
came back. I asked what that was all about and she said, "I had to check
your balance." I've never used a check there since. They sometimes have
bargains, but I don't like dealing with their personnel.

Joy...

david...
that's an unfortunate experience. to me, running a retail establishment
means dealing with all acceptable means of payment... cash, credit card,
checks... it comes with the territory. to treat you this way is
unacceptable on their part. I hope you shop elsewhere.

Joy...
I normally do shop elsewhere. On rare occasions, their bargains are too
good to resist, in which case I use a credit card. However, I've found that
I'd better know exactly what I want and be able to describe it precisely.
Their personnel seem to know nothing but their particular department. I
bought something there once - I think it might have been extra memory - and
it was in a locked case. The computer salesman paged someone from that
department, but nobody came. He finally got a key, unlocked the case and
gave me what I wanted, but I was really glad I didn't have any questions
about the item, because he obviously didn't know.

admittedly, i sometimes get frustrated when i'm in the quick checkout
line and the person ahead of me writes a check for $3 of purchases...
but I also remind myself that this may be the only means for this person.
some are frightened of credit and debit cards and are on very tight
budgets... so, when this happens, i pick up a copy of national enquirer
in the checkout line... :)

sometimes when i use the ATM machine, there are balance slips from other
persons left behind... and I see balances of $1.00 - and sometimes less.
a good reminder to me that i shouldn't judge others in the checkout
line... dalin and i were there once, and i'm sure so were many of
you....

mmj1...
Joy, I had forgotten about Fry's. Same thing happened to me. She tried to
tell me I'd be in their system so next time it wouldn't take so long. Well,
I doubt if I would buy anything at Fry's often enough to stay in their
system.
Talk about adding insult to injury! I think that if I were he I'd have
tried to take it back to court.

matter. I do suppose I should be leaving more of a
trace--esp. now that Leah's dad has screwed up my credit

Joy...
Yes, that is a good point. I can remember well when we were in dire straits
like that.

Betsy In VA...
I can remember being in college and desparately needing cardboard boxes
to move into an apartment. The store that had always given away boxes
for free had decided to charge 15 cents. I had no money and no time to
go to another store, so I wrote a check for 30 cents.

rating.....

Marilee...
Well, now, that's just plain rude.

I suppose you've done all of the 'protest' things you can do to have your
separated from his.

Marilee

Jean B....
The problem is (was) that he put various bills in my name and
then didn't pay them! And he wasn't even apologetic!

**Dalin**...
Well that wasn't very nice! I thought he was pretty well to do.
Seems like if you didn't sign for them though, you could tell the
company you won't pay for them. You should Jean so it won't affect
your credit. I wouldn't think you would be responsible for anything
you didn't authorize.
Dalin

Jean B....
Are signatures required? If so, there's a thought.

**Dalin**...
Not always. If I order something over the phone I only need my credit
card number. But it doesn't matter, if someone makes unauthorized
charges on your account you need to report it. Did you pay the
charges? If so your credit would be fine. If you didn't pay you
might eventually be prosecuted. And should you ever want to buy
something on credit like another car you probably would be refused
credit from the bank.

Jean B....
I took all the bills and paid them--but they were still way
past due!!!!! And I also had said months before that that I
would pay them if he was just going to ignore them.

**Dalin**...
I hope it was just a one time thing and he doesn't continue to use
your card. Maybe you should cancel it, ask for a new account number.
It's difficult probably with him being Leah's father.

You probably had a lot of late charges too, but at least you have
salvaged your credit reputation, though your credit score is probably
pretty low. Please take steps to see he doesn't charge more.
Dalin

Joy...
I use my debit card only to get cash from an ATM, or if I'm at a gas station
that doesn't accept credit cards. I use my credit card wherever I can and
pay my bills on line. I've cut way down on the number of checks and cash I
use. I use the credit card because I get frequent flier miles when I use
it.

from US Bank...In November I got a $30.00 gift certificate from them to use
at Penney's.....must have some agreement with that store...
Anyway it was nice to get just before the holidays.
I have been very happy with the services of this bank and would recommend
them to anyone.
