david...
I'm having trouble figuring out how the points are scored... here is an
example: If one of our dear members is familiar with how points are
calculated, I will appreciate it. Mick, you explained all the columns, but
I never got the points bit the 'Pts' column. For example, Ecuador wins 2
games, scores 5 goals, and has a score of 6. Germany wins 2, scores 5
goals, has 2 goals scored against them - yet they also have score of 6.
Help!!!

MP W D L GF GA Pts
Ecuador 2 2 0 0 5 0 6
Germany 2 2 0 0 5 2 6
Poland 2 0 0 2 0 3 0
Costa Rica 2 0 0 2 2 7 0

Anne Jackson...
You get three points for a win! Two for a draw and one for a no-score
draw IIRC. The number of goals scored for/against is only important
if there's a tie on points....

david...
Anne, thanks!!!! helps a lot... but brings up another question.. now
that I know how points are calculated, it seems the D L GF GA columns
also contribute to overall positioning.. to me, it seems there should be
an overall score. for example, in my post, Ecuador and Germany have same
number of points, yet Ecuador is ranked higher because (my guess) of
having no goals scored against them. is there a mechanism to add/subtract

Anne Jackson...
Yes, that is so.

all of this to a final score?

Anne Jackson...
Ermmm....I don't understand your last question, David! Sorry.

I'm not 'au fait' with football, really, being a rugby fan!

your post did do wonders, though... quickly let me do the arithmetic..
:) thanks!!
