Yes. I have a Linksys router with two antennae. My wireless laptop, a
HP8200, receives nicely on my front porch- two stories and half the length
of the house from an upstairs bedroom which houses the desktop and cable
modem. And the front porch house wall is brick.
Check out the HP 8000 series. Circuit City and others are selling an HP8210
for $699- 17" VXGA screen, 80GB HD, 512MB memory, 128MB video, double sided
DVD writer and 4-in- card reader, with WinXP SP2. Haven't seen a better
deal anywhere.

David, this may not be any problem for me, the world's very last user of
Win 98, as I am pregnant with the idea of purchasing a Dell Inspiron 6400.

Haha. Took me a long time to figger this out, Chak. There's
a railway station in Norway called Hell. (I HOPE I recalled
that correctly. If not, I'm gonna be VERY embarrassed. )

It's fluke-y (or flaky) at best. And anyway, I'm not about to
chime in if I absolutely KNOW I don't remember (unless I'm
trying to be funny). That kind-of skews one's impression.

Well for goodness sake make the father pay for it. ;-)
|
A neighbour of mine, still employed at IBM here, says he would rather
recommend this Dell than the Thinkpads I have sniffed on before.
I imagine that this Dell has the same possibility as the Thinkpad has - to
have a LAN, so that the modem, transceiver, USB hub, color printer and
scanner still can reside in my little computer room. While I can lean
comfortably back in my easy chair in our living room, with the Dell on my
lap. Listening to the sound of darling wife's knitting pins on my port
side. (Left side). Romantic, n'est ce pas?

Get it, and give me a report! :-)

You see, I really WANT to do it. Purchase. But to me this purchasing feels
something like what Neil Armstrong pronounced way back in time: That's one
small step for man, one giant leap for mankind. If you see the parallell.

I guess it's a good thing I just ordered a computer that comes with XP.
|
plan to keep both of them for backup... they still work fine... :)

I only have one computer but I put in a caddy that will take one of three
different hard drives, two of which have either a copy of Win98 or
Millennium on it. I use them once on a while, mostly to bring software
programs up to date. They are still great programs but much more prone to
problems then XP. I never used support personnel as I went to the news
groups that offered support for what ever program I was using.

L'il Al, you can't sneak in like this without telling us how you are
doing now. It's nice to see you again. :-)
