If anyone is interested I just posted a new photo in my gallery on
pbase. I shot this one earlier today while looking for bugs on the
Loquat blossoms. This critter is larger than the Honey Bees and other
insects around them. It is a member of the Shield Bug (Stink Bug)
family but I cannot pin it down so far. There are over 200 different
types throughout the world. If you can identify it please let me
know. I though it was quite pretty but I will not mess with it. LOL

I have only the one macro lens, Nikon 105mm Micro. I have had it for
many years. First bought to use with my old Nikon F4 35mm film camera.
It works great. I also used a ring flash around the end of the lens
for this shot even though it was a bright sunshine day today. Since
I was shooting at 1/100 sec at F/22 and at ISO of 100. At those
settings I get better and sharper images. Now, if I could just talk
my body and hands into holding steady and quick shaking. LOL

My camera is the Canon EOS 20D and my macro lens in the Cannon EF100. I
haven't found the best settings on mine yet. I am going to spend a good bit
of time this winter just learning everything about my camera. I have never
taken a RAW picture yet but I want to soon. My hands are getting kind of
shakey too, I am using the tripod more and more or the monopod. I have
asked for some extension tubes for Christmas and the ultroviolet lens.
Christmas for me is easy, camera things. :-)

Not very fond of any bugs, Arch, but I do admire your photography....
I prefer furry, cuddly, domestic creatures.

I knew a guy like that once but he didn't turn out to be domestic after all.

But Beth my Honey Bees are domestic (I think) and they are a bit furry! LOL

I have to agree (surprise!) it IS pretty. :-) Just don't let it come
up here!

You're right. It is pretty. Thanks for sharing it.

As usual another great example of your photo talent. In fact it's not as
ugly as some of your 'pets' but if it stinks I just can't invite it in.

Don't stinkbugs only stink if you disturb or step on them?
Arch (TX)...
|
You are absolutely correct Chak. It is strictly a defense mechanism.
They only release it if they are attact. The stuff they release (I
forget the chemical names, it is a combination of two) does not harm
you other than making you want to get rid of the oder quickly! LOL

Thanks Joy. I think little bugs are cute or at lest interesting. You
seldom get to see one up really close.

Most of us don't try. Obviously, we miss a lot that way.

Only since I met you. :-)

They're a bit like skunks in miniature, then.
mmj1...

Even though for a bug that was a cute one not as cute as a skunk. I don't
think a stink bug smells as bad as an offended skunk though.

A suggestion, I am sure you like to look at various flowers
close up. Start carrying a small magnifying glass with you.
When you see any kind of bug on one of the flowers take a
closer look at it with the lens. You would be surprised
how interesting most of them are.

Thanks for the suggestion, Arch.

|
True, skunks are definitely cuter, as long as they're not offended. ;-)

He/she looks familiar. Must be a warm weather critter, huh?
I really like the flowers. Ours are now all gone, except the fake ones in a
basket on my porch.

Sue I have a wonderful suggestion! Go to the store and purchase some
fake bugs and attach them to the fake flowers. Every time you go near
the fake flowers you will think it is spring. OK, forget it! LOL
