"Choose your music. Choose your device.
Know it¢s going to work.
When your device and music service are compatible with each other, all you
have to do is choose the music that¢s compatible with you. Look for the
"PlaysForSure" logo on a wide selection of devices and music stores."
Except the new Zune gadget that's supposed to take over the entitre
iPod market. And you must have heard of the Zune. It's manufactured by
Microsoft. The very same Microsoft that's featured prominently on the
'Playsforsure' label.
Bit odd, if you ask me.

I'm having a bit of trouble figuring it all out, but it seems to me that
just about every player now comes outfitted with software that won't play
something, either because it's ripped or because it's a proprietary
format or for some other reason. The only thing I'm sure of is that if
Microsnot labels something 'plays for sure', it won't.

I gather they roped in most of the manufacturers of these devices and came
up with this idea of 'playsforsure' so that said manufacturers could
guarantee that what their customers downloaded from 'playsforsure'
desingnated sites, would indeed work. A little research has shown that it
doesn't always do so though .
Whatever, Zune owners will not be able to download from any of the usual
playforsure sources. You can't even play stuff from MSNmusic.
Far as I can make out, the Zune software isn't compatible with XP but it
*will* be compatible with Vista. So if you lay out the cash for a shiny
new Zune thing, then you can't download from anywhere but the M$ Zune
shop (whatever that will be called) or you can upgrade to Vista at your
own expense so that you can make your won compatible tracks.
'S very fair innit. ;-)
