i see office depot is offering an HP desktop computer and printer for $99
and $99 shipping. not bad for a Celeron PC with 256meg and printer. the
price indicates that computers are becoming appliances. not a bad deal.. :)

The price also suggests that it has no OS installed but I could be wrong.
Is this an in-store offer cos I can't find it on their website? Whatever,
I should order one before they spot their mistake, if it is such.

david, do you have a URL for that? I looked on their website, and it's
not there.

yes, not on basic website...

Yow! If you're near an Office Depot, you could have a very nice machine
(with an all-in-one printer!) and monitor for $150. (I'm adding $50 for
the upgrade to 512Mb memory.)

well, as i understand it, you'd pay $400 out-of-pocket and then receive
$300 back after submitting 4 rebate coupons. (and i agree, the $50 upgrade
would be a no-brainer...) - and I think it's ONLY an online offer - not
in stores.. at least that's my perception... :)

Yup. "Orders for configured computers must be placed at a U.S. Office
DepotŪ retail store. Actual product available through delivery only. "
But you know, I'll bet if you went into the store armed with the
circular, you could bargain the same deal.

I received an email from a firm I had previously dealt with to say that, if I
bought 4 cartridge sets, they would throw in a printer!
The laser printer I am using was a bogof - by one, get one free!

Almost all the major printer manufacturers practically give away the
printers. They make their money on the cartridges that you will eventually
buy
