That beautiful feild after field of strawberry pinkish red I described
a bit ago, now poses a big hazard for all of us in Nevada. I found out
it is called " Cheat Grass" and it has dried and turned to a light
beige..and is highly flamable. It is along all the walkways, as well as
being in open fields and ranges of hills. A fireman on t.v.
,demonstrated how quickly it can ignite by firecrackers, and we are
holding all the extra fireman sent in to help with the many fires we
have already had ,to see us thru the 4th. Fireworks are illegal here,
BUT... ! Bette .

BUT is right. They're illegal here, too, but I've already been hearing them
this evening.

Egad! That DOES sound like a hazard. I really hope no sparks
settle in it! I know what you mean about the fireworks. They
are illegal here too, but folks ignore that.... I don't like
to see them shot over the house!!!!

They are illegal here too but that doesn't stop people. I don't understand
why you can go just outside of town like the Indian Reservation & small
towns and buy all the illegal kind (not sold in the City). Unfortunately
they don't remain in those areas to set them off. I cross my fingers every
year but that doesn't seem to help because there are always some house fires
and brush fires. We have had a brush fire out of control not far from the
City for a few days now. Scary time of year.
