I downloaded a recipe card. Now...what program can I open it up on so I can
write out the recipe on the computer?

I still think you'd like thinkfree, sue. you can see what you're editing
and once you've done one recipe you'll have the template saved for all
future recipes. but i won't say any more.... :)

sue,
up. they give you 1 gig free storage with Word compatible and Excel
compatible web access. works only with IE. works beautifully. same
instructions i sent in post work fine there. you can either print, save
to hard drive, save on web space (free) or save as PDF. kewl!
to test this, I went to website with the index cards, copied to clipboard
after rightclicking gif, toggled to thinkfree site, clicked File>New,
clicked edit>paste... then rightclicked and menu came up to 'format
picture' (I think) and it had the same option (BEHIND text) that i
selected... then I used Insert>textbox... dragged mouse to a large
rectangle in card and then typed... it's easy... costs you nothing...
and gives you full Word capability whenever needed... :) (I do a
newsletter on this... ahem.. and this was mentioned a few months back....

So....is clipboard the same as notepad?

sue,
your wording is causing people to think you want to type in a recipe. is
your real desire to 'print' the recipe? that's my guess. if the recipe is
on the gif file, you can open with your browser and print it.

Certainly possible, chak. I never know where 'compatibility' exists... it
might mean that the files are compatible, but I doubt it means all
features. Word has so many hidden and rarely used features that I would
be surprised to find all of them in other products. I did find some
additional options:
2. abiword is free, but I don't know if it has that feature
3. Staroffice 8 is superb and free if sue or stan still have any academic
affiliation (I "think" being retired is acceptable) and would be my first
recommendation for day-in/day-out use.)
4. textmaker 2002 suite is $12 for any person with academic affiliation,
but i don't know if it does what sue wants...
5. microsoft works is a possibility... would need to be tested.
free is always good, but free stuff rarely does everything the $$$ stuff
does... - that's why my preference above is Staroffice. it's not a
free product to general public.

got it!
Sue,
do you have Microsoft Word? This may work with Works, but I don't know...
here's the steps in Word...
1. create NEW document
2. insert the GIF using insert>file toolbar (or cut and paste from web)
3. the graphic toolbar (floating) will appear - if not, rightclick in gif
area. select the 'text wrapping' button.
4. one of the options is 'set BEHIND text'. click that.
5. now, position cursor in gif area and select Insert>text box...
6. drag mouse to set size of text box...
7. type text into box and you're done... :)
8. uh... then print it i guess. You can now save it and edit again...
or after printing, erase text and start over.... I suggest make a file
for each.... :)

Your browser is supposed to be able to handle .gif files, that's just a
picture. Any photoshop-type software should also be able to open it. I

No... my recipe is not on the gif file. I want it to be, but I don't
know how to do it.

sue,
would you please email the gif file to me? no promises, but that will let
me better grasp the issue... :) thanks,

sue,
would you also please send the URL where you got the recipe card in the
email? thanks

know for sure Firefox will open it.

Downloaded? I copy and then paste things like that into Word. I can
save it to a file or print it or both.
