Bette...
Visited the dentist who will assist my regular dentist with implants.
The office visit alone ( x-rays, of course) was $497.00 I should not
have said X rays.. but, panoramic film, tomographic survey.
The part he will do will cost me $5,517.00... I still have to see what
my regular dentist will charge for his part of the procedure. That is 2
implants.. plus bone graft, blood work of some sort.
Not only that, it will take months ! But ! he says it will not hurt !
Like heck, it'll hurt the ole' pocketbook plenty. He said to be sure
to really check dental insurance because you can end up paying more
monthly then they allow on your bill.
Who else has been thru this??? Bette

NHunkele...
Am I being cynical when I much don't trust doctors and dentists
anymore?

Seven years ago I moved and went to the dentist here for tooth
cleaning. He tried 3 or 4 times to talk me into dental surgery. I
politely declined. I still have all the teeth I originally took to him
for cleaning. Outside of one or two fillings and/or replacement
fillings nothing much has changed. The dentist retired and the new one
who bought the business is having me come in next week for a set of
full xrays. All of last year's are on file, but..so what? He needs
new ones.

At my age I avoid elective surgery so I have a feeling he and I will be
having a few discussions before he realizes I am not going to fill his
coffers. :)

Yoj...
There are good doctors and dentists out there, but they can be hard to find.
When we first moved here, I went to a dentist who recommended having all my
teeth pulled and getting false teeth. He said it would be cheaper than
trying to fix the teeth I had. That was 36 years ago. I still have most of
those teeth, along with a couple of permanent bridges. Almost through a
fluke, I found a dentist whose primary goal is to save the teeth I have.

That's kinda funny. About the same number of years ago I had the
exact opposite experience. I had already had some teeth pulled.
Because of a poor childhood dentist I had an inordinate fear of
dentists and pain and refused fillings. Then I had to have an abcessed
wisdom tooth extracted. The oral surgeon sent me to another dentist
and when I asked to have my remaining teeth pulled he sent me home to
think it over. He promised me absolutely no pain and promised that he
would pull any tooth that hurt while he was working on it. I had the
teeth filled and I still have every one of them.
