I was driving into town the other day and went a round about way and say
lots of beautiful bluebonnets blooming. A few indian paint brushes.
The highway department didn't used to mow the roadsides till after the
wildflowers have bloomed, but it seems they are now, so goodbye
wildflowers. A shame as they are so pretty! Jeanette

As a rule of thumb, yours truly usually lets folks know when the first
Bluebonnets appear here in South Texas. Typically it is mid to late
February. This year the continued drought delayed the bloom until about
two weeks ago and so pitiful is it that I didn't even mention it. It
will be a lousy flower show this year.

Oh, so maybe the mowing was scheduled before it was known that
the blooms would be late?

I've not seen what Jennete is talking about. I've never seen TexDOT mow
the roadsides before the last bloom was done.. usually in June. If I had
to guess, what she saw was perhaps a county or city crew on some sort of
assignment and likley just a local thang.

Don't know about your neighborhood over there. If your area is as dry as
ours then they may have mowed as a fire hazard removal.

It would be nice if they at least allowed them to bloom and re-seed.
But leave it to mankind to find another way to screw up nature :I(

Oh! That's really too bad! Shame on them!
