Lou...
Does anyone here live in a mobile home?

Looking for info.

Lou...

Lou...
Wow That is some "mobile home". Not gonna be cheap!

BTW I live in NW NJ. Wind should not be an issue.

Norma...
My late sister lived in one in Kissimmee, FL for about 25 years. I
don't know much about them, personally, except she preferred it to
living in a house. She said there was more closet/storage room. :)
Norma
Where were you?
I am looking at an older home - 1973 - and am worried about insulation.

Lou...

Jean B....
You don't get hurricanes there? How do they track from the
south up into New England?

Lou...
Yes we do, but VERY infrequently and not nearly the power of down south.
Would I get insurance? YES. Would I not buy a MH cause of a possible
hurricane? Nope. Hey there are some risks not worth worrying about.
OTOH Joy mentioned fire danger and that must be covered by code in NJ
because all homes I have looked at have what I would call a fire door
quite close to the bedroom (which is in the back).

Thanks for the concerns:-))

Joy...
That's good to know - about the fire door.

Jean B....
Well, good luck! I thought you liked your current living
situation. OTOH, the mobile home that Bette described sounded
mighty appealing! :-)

Lou...
Yes, I am impressed as I do think about fire stuff.
Many people love living in mobile homes. My mother-in-law did. I would
have a problem because there seems to be a lack of privacy in mobile home
parks. I once went to visit my mil and she didn't come when I knocked on
the door. I could see that her car was there, so I started toward the
clubhouse to see where she was. Her neighbor, who happened to be outside,
said, "I think she's in the bathroom."

There is also the fire danger. When those things go, they go up in a hurry.
If I had one, I'd want to have an exit from my bedroom. In the one my mil
had, her bedroom was at one end, and the exit was about 2/3 of the way
toward the other end, opposite the kitchen. Once she put some chicken on to
cook and went to the clubhouse, forgetting it was there. Her place didn't
burn, because one of the neighbors saw the smoke (The upside of the lack of
privacy) and called the FD. They carried the pot out of the house (with
asbestos gloves), and when they took the lid off, flames shot up a couple of
feet. If she'd gone to bed instead of to the clubhouse, that might well
have started a fire, and there would have been no way for her to get out.
Thank you. I figured the laws were changed cause the banks will not
loan on anything older than 1976.
