I walked in the woods today and felt the chill of fall's morning cold
Duchess kept busy sniffing fallen leaves of red and gold
We arrived at a creek whose icy shallow waters also traveled in places where
the tall chestnut and oak abound
The fireworks of autumn had burst all around us with glorious colors, and
now single leaves broke off and rocked gently to the ground
A single leaf touched my forehead and I gazed at tree tops all dropping
parts of their colored scarves in a vertical sea.
A single leaf, I thought, from a top of a tree at this place at this time
touching me.
Was it by chance? or was it part of a plan?
Was it random? like my fingers on a grain of sand?
Was it predictable? or universal unpredictability?
Could I have changed it?or was it willed to be?
Who's at the controls? Who dropped that leaf?
Whichever way you decide, it's still your belief.
