which is all I eat since I found little green "critters" crawling on my
romaine.

You objected to the little green critters? They give you extra protein,
extra *fresh* protein, and you object?
There's just no pleasing some people.

Oh oh! What are we supposed to do now? Stay away from Dole salads I
guess. I couldn't live without salads.

Chak....I have given up meat! LOL

Well, you need to ascertain whether such "meat" is healthful
or not.
Hmmm, here's a question: how would a vegetarian/vegan react
to eating such stuff?

Look, just because one batch of one brand was contaminated doesn't mean
you have to avoid all their product. Dole salad is probably cleaner now
than any other, because they can't afford to have it happen again.

I'm not a big salad eater and I wash the "pre-washed" salad mixes
anyway. I usually buy Boston lettuce or iceberg although I recently
bought a package of organic romaine which was nice and crisp....and
expensive. LOL

There are other brands. I recently read that restaurants pull
apart the leaves, wash 'em, and then wrap 'em in cloth (I
assume that means ones without lint ) towels ere storing in

I bet they do! And I also bet the longer you store it, the
more opportunity the bacteria have to multiply.

the fridge. I'll try that.

Me neither. So far I haven't discovered anything but I do kind of look
things over as I put some in a bowl.

|
I rinse the bags but sounds like I should dump the bag in hot soapy
water!

Thanks a heap. This gets filed under "Things I Never Wanted To Know".

No kidding! What kind? I've only grown garlic and chives and both
practically took over!

Yes, and unless you sterilize them, the towels could encourage the
production of bacteria, or even carry them.
I figure I'll play it safe in areas where it seems as though taking special
measures might help. Otherwise I won't worry. So far I've been pretty
lucky. My daughter was horrified that I ate the chicken that was in the
freezer when my power was out for 33 hours, but I didn't get sick. Someone
had told me about meat that was okay after four days without power, and I
hated to throw it out, so I didn't.
Jean B....
|
Was that chicken warm/totally thawed? I'd think that would
make a difference.
Joy...
|
I only opened the freezer once while the power was off, and it was still
frozen then. I spent the night at my daughter's house, and when I got home,
the power had been back on for almost eight hours, so everything in the
freezer was totally frozen again.
Jean B....

That sounds pretty safe to me!

I guess one would have to be very sure the towels were
sterile--boil them or something. But then even after that,

It must have been. As I told her, I've eaten some if several times now, and
I haven't died yet. ;-)

they'd pick up something or other. Well, I don't think
lettuce has ever made me sick, so perhaps I'd better leave
well enough alone.

|
I keep thinking I'll try growing garlic....
