No rain here

Paco...
We have only had one day since February with rain. Still waiting for the
rainy season but no signs of it yet. Getting bored of the sun. Could use
some rainy, cloudy afternoons to give my AC a break.

Jean B....
Well, we're gonna have rain from late this afternoon through
the weekend. In fact, I'd better get out of here and wander
ere it comes.

I need a new AC, so I'm happy it's gonna be cool. I have
looked a bit and need to look some more. One problem: the
choices are limited because it has to go through a sleeve.
Boy, I wish I had normal windows. I could just get one of
those portable thingies or a window one if I did. So much easier.

Jane Benn...
I'm planning to buy one for the cottage this year, but we plan to install it
by cutting a hole in the wall.

Jean B....
A portable? It's tempting!

Jane Benn...
Yes, a portable.

One of my (cottage) neighbours did this, and it works great.

I probably wouldn't bother just for myself, but my mother likes to go to the
cottage, and she cannot get in and out of the water any more, so has no way
to get cooled off on hot days.

Jean B....
So is cutting the hole in the wall pretty simple? If so,
maybe I can hire a handyman to do it. And then we could get
something for the living room too. Right now it just siphons
coolness from the rest of the house. (That level has no doors.)

Jane Benn...
Sorry, I am not the person who does this stuff, and I would have to ask my
cousin.

I assume it's a lot easier in an unwinterized (i.e. uninsulated) woodframe
cottage than in, say, an insulated brick house.

But I had central air conditioning installed at my house a few years ago,
and the air conditioner is outside, and there are just two small holes in
the wall, one for the electrical wires, and one for the air that gets pumped
into the house. I was at work while it was being done, but I imaginwe they
used drills to make them. And they caulked them (or whatever it is they do)
so nothing else gets in or out.

Maybe one of the handier gentlemen here could advise?

Jean B....
Thanks, Jane.

BTW, I was thinking... So your cottage doesn't have windows
that you can use for ACs?
