Do you have the ove glove? I bought one but you can feel the heat if
what you are handling is much over 400 degrees F.
Rhonda...
|
nope, I've never bought one...I just use an oven mit and thats always
been good enough.
Chakolate...
|
I have an oven mitt, too, but I don't use it for hot things. I use it to
play 'gotcha' with my cat Doc. He's a biter, and quite savage, and he
just loves to get rolled over on his back and fought with. He bunny
kicks me, bites (but not too hard) and brings out the claws to hold me
fast so I don't get away.
It was a godsend for us when he had no other cat to play with.

I bought a 9.7 oz bag at a grocery store here.

I forgot where I ordered mine from but, you can get them for the same
price at most of the dept. stores. Do you have Kohl's or Macy's? They
have them there and at Wal Matts. I really do like them.
Jean B....
|
I got my as-yet-untried sheet at KMart. They had some other
items too.
|
**Dalin**...
|
No Kohl's or Macy's here. :-( Maybe Walmart. I *think* Wal Matts is
Walmarts?
Linda1...
|
Dalin, I sometimes run across them at our discount stores around here.
Rhonda...
|
Dalin: oops, I meant WalMarts, sorry about that.
|
Let me know if you can't find them up there before you order one from
the net. That is where I got mine and it was very cheap - $2-3. I like mine

I will Linda, thanks! The bread pans in the grocery store - when they
had them - were $14.
Sue...

They had them in the Flea last weekend. I wasn't really interested so I
don't know the price. Guess I will have to re-check.

No, but I bought two potholders made out of similar material that were
supposed to withstand heat up to 450 degrees and the same thing
happens. The two together work great.
I'd like to know if anyone has bought muffin tins, cake pans or bread
pans made in that kind of rubbery material where you supposedly don't
need to grease them. They are a dark blue in color and are very soft.

Hi Dalin, I have a 'bundt' pan made of that material, and so far so good. I
have used it twice, and didn't have to grease or flour the pan and the cake
came right out. But I'm wondering about a long time of use, 'cause I cook
and bake quite a bit. We shall see. It was my first " new " kind of bakeware
in many years, I get stuck in a rut with my baking and cooking, and love my
old fashioned gardian ware with the glass lids. I use that for cooking
almost every day. I have muffin tins that were my husbands grandmothers and
I still use them, and a few pieces of cookware from my dearly departed
mother-in-law. I think of them both every time I use them.
Sorry to ramble, but this does seem like the place for it! (g)

This is definitely the place for rambling and reminiscing. I don't do much
cooking, and I almost never use my heavy, old Dutch oven, but every time I
get out pans, I see it and remember that it belonged to my great grandmother
before she gave it to my mother.

I didn't even know they make cookie sheet liners or bundt pans. Our
grocery store has just a small selection. Maybe they are waiting to
see if people buy it. With things just popping out it would be nice
if they made a jello mold too. They aren't cheap, I think the bread
pan was $14.
I can see where you would continue to use your cookware as it is
meaningful to you. :-) I just have ordinary stuff and am always
looking for ways to decrease my work load. Without a dishwasher I
like the idea of just swishing those new things in hot water with no
scrubbing etc. :-)
|
|
Rhonda...
|
Dalin: I have that set of cookware and they're great. I never have to
Yoj...
|
If you could find the bundt pan, you could use it as a jello mold. Also,
you could use the cupcake tins to make individual jello things, maybe
decorating them.
|
grease them and the cakes & muffins just pop right out.
**Dalin**...
|
Thanks! Off to the store to buy a muffin pan! I presume you must
place them on a cookie sheet. Does that change the baking time of
anything?
|
|
Jean B....
|
I just got a sheet of that stuff for baking cookies. It says,
IIRC, that you have to spray (?) them the first time. I
haven't tried it yet.... All that stuff (Not just the sheet)
seems so unstable, you'd have to support it somehow
**Dalin**...
Jean B....
|
Sure you can--just don't get that Splenda for Baking or the
brown sugar version, both of which contain sugar.
**Dalin**...
|
But doesn't the regular Splenda in the bag, and the little packets for
coffee etc.?
|
|
|
I think the sheet is a cookie pan liner and the box for the other
stuff says to put it on a cookie sheet. Since the heat comes from the
bottom of my oven I just wondered if having that cookie sheet in the
way would affect baking time, but they really do look nice and I think
I'll try out the muffin pan. If I like it I'll get more.
Jean B....
|
I await your report. Turns out Leah is sick today, so I may
do some cooking while I linger.
**Dalin**...
Jean B....
|
It's made from sugar, yes, but it is very low cal/low carb.
If you are truly low-carbing, you will get into the
differences between the various forms of Splenda (not now
speaking of Splenda for Baking or the brown sugar version),
but I don't think you care about that! The bag stuff may be
the stuff that actually is half sugar. Be careful to check.
**Dalin**...
|
I have to watch my sugar intake too. :-( I thought it was fake sugar
like saccharin.
|
|
Jean B....
|
Oooops, I should have deleted the first paragraph of what I
just sent. You didn't write it. Sorry.
|
|
I hope it's nothing serious.
Jean B....
|
Doesn't seem to be thus far, but who knows where it will lead.
I am noting my throat seems a bit scratchy, so maybe she has
some kind of low-level virus?
**Dalin**...
|
Does she have a fever? I hope she's (and you) just coming down with a
cold.
Jean B....
|
She had a fever earlier but seems somewhat better tonight. We
shall see. Sometimes these things go nowhere, and I hope this
is one of those times.

Rhonda...
|
I've always used parchman paper when baking cookies & cakes..it works
great and the cookies just slide right off the paper ...
Jean B....
|
How about, say, lace cookies? I am thinking they will be my
test, when I get up the nerve to bake some again.
Rhonda...
|
I've never made lace cookies...if you have the recipe handy & don't mind
sending it to me I'll try those out.
Jean B....
|
I don't even KNOW what recipe I used, it was so long ago. All
I remember is that they are delicious--but just awful to pry
off the baking sheet.
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
It's not plastic, but some kind of soft rubbery material. They didn't
have any in my grocery store this morning so I couldn't look up the
brand name or the material. I guess maybe my store has stopped
selling them. :-( I'm going to check Walmart next.
Jane...
|
Aren't they silicone? I think it *is* a form of rubber.
|
|
Jean B....
|
They say they're made of silicone, I think....
|
|
Sue...
|
I don't have the ove glove, but one made of the same stuff that the muffin
pans and cookie sheets are made of.
Actually, I bought it to use camping with my dutch oven.
