Goromoff's Big Night Out

Goromoff...
For a long time, ever since he became poorly after his little 'accident',
Goromoff has eshewed gatherings of people, especially strangers. He is
slowly coming back into the stream of things, but still cannot tolerate
being in enclosed places or in close proximitiy to strangers.

Some time ago, he joined a Writers' Group which meets once a week at the
local library. This Group, composed of poets and prose writers, discuss
each others' work and everyone gets the chance to present their work for
appreciation of their peers, or otherwise. So far, Goromoff has has some
success as the people have enjoyed listening to his stories. They have
offered good advice which has meant some revision where necessary. Goromoff
has had the opportunity to listen to some very good poetry, read straight
from the authors' own mouths.

Each year, they have a Christmas Dinner at some local hostelry - this
year's event was last night at a new place called The Roman's Rest.
Goromoff was accompanied by his dear Inamorata, who acted as minder, as
usual. Goromoff has become used to the company of his fellow writers, and
is no longer uncomfortable in their company, but here were more new faces,
in new surroundings.

Goromoff was placed at a table with 5 other people, one of whom was Mrs. G
and one was a friend who attends. His wife turned out to be a lady that
they knew from way back, but did not know was married to his friend. Of the
other couple, Goromoff knew the chap, but not his charming lady. Because of
this, Goromoff did not feel too uncomfortable in their company, although he
was a little apprehensive, since there were many other new faces.

Fortunately, Goromoff was seated at the outer end of the table, so that
escape would be easy should everything become too overpowering for him. The
young ladies began serving the meal and everyone became immersed in the
mechanics of eating. Goromoff's main course was turkey with the trimmings
which he enjoyed. His dear Lady Wife was not too enthralled as the vegables
were done in the semi raw fashion which seems to prevail at present.
Goromoff was not too keen with them either, but he still enjoyed the meal.

The sweet course was a confection new to Goromoff. It was billed as an
American pancake, filled with fruits of the forest and ice cream, drizzled
with a flavoured syrup. Goromoff was not overly struck by this and wondered
if this was but an imitation of the real thing. But then, there's pancakes
and there's pancakes, aren't there?

Joy...

mmj1...
The only problem I have found of late is that al denta when referring to
veggies means darn near raw. That's fine with a lot of them but with some I
feel they need a little more cooking and a little less al denta.

I'm glad you survived the ordeal, Goromoff.

Personally, I prefer to chew my vegetables, rather than having them cooked
to mush. ;-)

I hope this event has helped you to be able to go out among people more.

Goromoff...
maybe, Joy - we'll see.

**Lin**...
It sounds like you coped very well Goro. :-) And semi-raw veggies
retain more of their vitamins and are healthier for you. :-)

Goromoff...
well, yes, that's one slant on it Lin!

I read somewhere that veggies, when boiled, will lose some of their vits and
essential traces, but retain them all when steamed!

**Lin**...
Seems I've heard that too, but don't know how it could be true. Seems
vitamins would go up in steam.

Norma...
I'm glad you survived. The dessert sounds like an Anglisized version
of an Americanized version of the French Crepe Suzette. :) I kinda
prefer most veggies half-cooked except for green beans which seem
tastier, to me, if well cooked.
