i have some 'stuff' around the house and thought i might try to unload
(oops, 'sell') it on ebay. anyone here done that and how did it work out? i
don't want to create a business there - just sell a few items. my biggest
unknown is packing and mailing... thanks,

My son does it all the time. He claims it's reliable and fun. As far as
shipping is concerned he charges the buyer. He quotes from standard
weight/distance/cost charts from UPS to calculate shipping. He says
simply to package things better than you think they need to be.

I sold a lot of memorabilia for one of my old ladies, after her
husband died. Mainly a collection of zippo lighters he had been
presented with, from American ships passing through Aden and
Bahrain where he was a ship's pilot (?) if that's the right term?
Not having a clue how to go about it, I looked for an "eBay advisor"
(there's at least one in each area) and he guided me through it step
by step. He charged £1 per item, but it was worth it! (You can
find details on the eBay site, of these advisors). You could always
use an advisor for a couple of items, then do the rest yourself, once
you had learnt the ropes?
The postage and packing - well, you would need to weigh everything
carefully, including any boxes and packaging, and price accordingly.
Err on the side of charging too much if needs be....state also, if you
want, that this would be the "local" postage rate, further distances
might cost more? Always price p & p _with insurance_ BTW!
You never can tell, there are those out there who will claim not
to have received the parcel....
Best of lucK!
