1. In earler chapters of the Book, the student will have learned a little
of the various cooking appliances available to make the Housewife's Tasks
so much easier.
2. This chapter will deal with the proper use of those appliances, and some
situations which might cause a small bother to the busy cook.

The fan-assisted oven/microwave oven combined is a magnificent piece of
equipment. It is relatively small and will produce delicious meals in a
very short time. However, care should be taken in certain aplications.

a. when microwaving food, it is sometimes advisable to cover said food to
prevent spatter. Such cover may be a specially designed plastic cover.
b. when microwaving frozen food, it is usually sufficient merely to
perforate the plastic wrapping.
c. when baking potatoes, special care must be taken:-
i) It is necessary to remember that both the microwave and fan assisted
heater element are employed.
ii) It is not necessary, nor indeed advisable, to cover the potatoes
with a plastic anti-spatter cover.
iii) After cooking, the glass plate, wire rack, potatoes and serving
plate will remove from the oven with only minor difficulty.
iv) To serve the potatoes, it will be necessary to separate the
components which are now welded together by the molten plastic.
v) The wire rack and the Pyrex plate will come away fairly easily, and
the molten plastic will separate with only a little difficulty.

I was working in a large office when a MW novice decided to cook an egg.
He gave it enough time so that when the egg BLEW apart it made a very
loud noise and wrecked the MW:-))

gotten rid of the strong smoky smell that was created when she
incinerated a bagel in it!
