Jean B....
(Note, I am fond of geeks and don't use that in a negative
fashion.) Is there any way a person could use the image here:

as a background or screensaver (and have it still function
too)? I have wanted to do that for years....

Chakolate...
web-searchweb-searchweb-search

There are a bunch of hits for but I don't see offhand
what you're looking for.

Okay, this one doesn't have the image, but lots of applets to use a clock
as your screensaver:

This one appears to be good for night time only:

Here's one I sort of like but it's a bit too complicated:

Jean B....
Nice but also costs money. :-)

I searched the web for to get some of those. Nothing is
quite what you want, though.

If you do find something, please let me know. It sounds like a super
screensaver. :-)

Aries...
looks good - is there a UK version ?

Chakolate...

Jean B....
Okay, now I'm looking. The first two here look interesting,
but not quite right:

you also found this

or

but this isn't free

or

not in Honda mode

or

neither highly rated nor free

None are as nice as the one online. Sniff.

Chakolate...
But I'm working on the one called mapmaker. Apparently an old version
(which is free) is much less complicated and can still be used as a
screensaver. I just can't quite figure out how.

That's more like what you wanted, right? It even has a star map. :-)

Jean B....
Thanks, Chak--and from your lips to someone's ea... er, eyes.

mmj1...
No, not sick. I don't have the number of desktop icons that you do but I
want mine where I want them & grouped together in similar kind.

Jean B....

david...
this is a case where you might not like what you wish for... :) a
screensaver in java is certainly doable... (would be a project), but would
cause the program to be resident all the time and you might find your
computer running a bit slow... :) I doubt it could be done for a
background, as all those icons need to sit on it... just my 2 cents..

Jean B....
Oh boo. But thanks for the response, David. So maybe what
one really wants, if one can't afford the wall version, IF
that is even still available anywhere, is a little devoted
device with a screen. Won't someone here patent such a thang?
Oh good! That makes at least three of us.

Jean B....
But does it work on XP? If that is the one I'm thinking of,
and I don't have time to look now, it worked on ?98 and ME. I
unfortunately had to update to XP a few months ago.

I could have bought such a clock some time ago, but it was
much too expensive an indulgence.

Chakolate...
Okay, the SunClock 5 one is good, although it's less elegant than the
NIST one.

and download SunClock 5, it automatically puts a screensaver option on
for you. Once you install it, open your screensaver options and select
SunClock5. You can adjust all the details through the 'settings' button.

I like it. :-)
Go look at mapmaker, that I gave the URL for. You have to dl it and run
it on your own machine, but you get the same sort of picture, and it's
centered on England, since that is the home of the creators.

Aries...
ta muchly - will do :)

Jean B....

david...
I've seen some very attractive free screensavers with clocks, but my
perception is that you want the explicit U.S. Time clock site...

Jean B....
Well, I want the shadow to accurately refect the state of the
world at any given time. I should add that that java version
does occasionally hang up on my computer, so one would have to
be able to prod it back into action. Maybe what Chak found

Jean B....
Oh! Again. This is the one I saw--just you clicked to the
next page on 5, so my q re whether it will work with XP
stands. If not, I'll try Joan's sugggestion.

Chakolate...
I think version 6 also has a screensaver option, I didn't look yet. I'm
using version 5 on Win2KPro.

Jean B....
Oh! This isn't the one I found at all. This is just great,
Chak. Thanks!!!!!

Jean B....
Yabbut, after 5, they seem to charge....

Chakolate...
No, there's a free version, too. I dl'd it yesterday but I haven't had
time to explore it yet. You just dl the program, and if you want the
extra features you pay to get a password to unlock them. Otherwise, it's
free.

will work better.

Chakolate...
So far version 5 hasn't given me any problem at all, but it did take me a
bit to figure out all the settings.

Jean B....
You seem to be a lot more computer-savvy than I am, so I hope
that is a bit of time--and not a bit of figgering! :-)

Chakolate...
Yes, I meant time, and I'll be happy to give you the odd hint or two if
you need them. (All my hints are odd, you know.)

Jean B....
Oh, but I LIKE odd! :-)

david...

david...
I forgot to include a couple of sample URLs...
- a nice world map with multiple time zones is at
tested it, but it's supposed to work on win98 - winXP and it's free

- this is a standalone or screensaver and has a free version ... much
prettier than the above one, but more resources... :)

BUT... always remember than screensavers are great places to hide spyware
or adware and some may even tell you if you read the complete license
agreement... :)

Jean B....
Aaaargh. So what do I need to do first--besides read the
agreement?

david...
just pour a cup of tea and relax... :) go to both URLs and look. they're
both quite attractive - including world map and time. the second one
'sunclock' also shows sunlight and darkness.... :) and my comment was
only a reminder to read carefully if there's a license agreement. I've seen
a few that actually state that they capture personal info, sell it to the
black market, confiscate your credit cards, etc., etc.,... :) I think
you'll like sunclock...

Jean B....
Well, if it is explicitly stated, that is fair. I am more
worried about some slimy entity couching that in terms a
normal (?) human would not decode....

Anyhoo, if I am absent when you resurface, you'll know what
happened. (Just kidding.)
you're in the right place then... if anyone here is not odd, will they
please stand up? as i look around the room, everyone is sitting or
sprawled or asleep... except for that guy who's out picking up trash in
his shopping cart... :)
Have you tried "change time zone"? I didn't click it, because
I want it on Eastern (US) time. On one hand, this is a gov
skite; OTO, you'd think folks would want to see the time in
various other places on the globe, so maybe so.

Aries...
I did but the page just came up with a world map with time differences but
nothing to click on :(
