Enjoyed your pictures of the fancy places you ate in TN. There are bunches
of them, for sure. I know....we area only a few miles from Duck Town, which
is on the border of GA/Tn.
Shame on you feeding Shadow people food.
And what ever you do......never eat at a place called "Mom's"

I love joints like that. Been to millions of 'em. Kinda hard to pass up
a place who's sign reads "Billy-Bob's BBQ, gas, feed&seed, bait, ammo,
hardware, used cars and twirling school."

And if the sign says, "Home Cooking" that means the busboy is preparing
meals 'cause the chef is home, cooking.

well, what didn't come out well, due to the blog's reducing photo sizes,
is that the sign also says "tire repair"... :)) it's a place to eat that
you will not forget and the menu lists many items not found in northern
or western restaurants...
i disagree (very respectfully, of course) with some of the responses to
this thread. food quality on the road is relative and i think truckers
stop at "mom's" and truck stops because there is a wider variety of food
than at mcdonalds and burgerking and KFC and wendy's and similar
franchises. truck stops and small family-owned restaurants generally
provide some vegetables and a variety of meat choices. i'm sure they
don't know the fat and calorie content as does mcdonalds, but it's a
generally healthier meal. i also think these places are preferable, even
for non-truckers such as dalin and i, because they offer a bit of local
ambience. when we stop at such places we remember them, but we've eaten
in an infinite number of fast food restaurants and can't remember any of
them... :-))
dalin and i certainly prefer food from fine restaurants, but those are
hard to find on the road, never near the highway, and the time to be
served can be lengthy. so, it's a choice of what's readily available. now
i'll get off my shaky soapbox...

Ha! Only thing I said NOT to do was eat at a place called Moms. Stan
and I often eat at small, unexpected places along the road, choosing them
instead of a franchise. We have found some spectacular places to eat.
Then, again, we have found some really bad places.

But people food can be better for dogs than the canned or dried stuff
with meat "by-products" in it. Did you know there are recipe books
for dogs? Cooked beef with rice added and grated carrots is a
favorite supposedly. :-)
Some of them look good for us!

"Mom's Home Cooking" ugh. My mother was a terrible cook. When I pay
for my meal, I want a professionally cooked meal, not some sort of
Unpolished "home" cooking. I can do home cooking myself. I'm also not
impressed with huge servings - or perhaps I should say I am, but not
favorably ("Home Style" is a different topic).
Years ago, I read something about eating where the truckers eat if you
want good food. The author's point was the food *quality* is NOT what
attracts the truckers. Problem is, I've forgotten what does attract
them. Maybe Dolly Parton as a waitress? But I think it was large
quantities of "steak & potatoes". Not my style.. (neither one).

Now adays, a lot of truckers stop at Flying J's. We did stop there to check
out the food. Standard buffet! So-so.

I agree. I feed only high quality foods such as Science Diet, but I also
give my pups "people food" because I know exactly what's in it. I don't
cook *for* my pups, but I tend to cook a little extra for them.

But the restrooms are great! And they have cold salads and
sandwiches to go and also hot food like chicken to go at their front
counter. You buy some of that and drive down the highway until you
come to a rest stop and have a picnic. :-)
