A new network here in the US is starting this month which will have
telenovelas in English each evening. Telenovelas are the spanish soap
operas that have been popular all over the world for decades. They
have a beginning, a middle, and an end and they come on every night,
not just each week. On saturday nights there will be a recap of what
happened that week. I predict this will be very popular, especially

Well many people love them. When Bob was a small child and he took an
afternoon nap I would sink down into the couch and watch two of them.
Seniors who are alone love them. So do shut ins.
I heard a long time ago the Spanish ones were coming to the U.S. and I
heard they were better because the plots moved along more quickly. I
predict a lot of folks in the U.S. will love them. We have pretty
much the equivalent now with "Desperate Housewives" and the old
"Dallas". I think that was the name of it, the one with J.D.? The
difference is they are/were once a week.

I watched one for years "All My Children" I even bought their 25th
anniversary book giving all the history with pictures. I look back on
it now and can't believe how real it seemed to me even though I knew
it wasn't. But all the gals in the neighborhood watched it and we all
used to get together for coffee in the morning after the kids went to
school and talk about it!

ABC network is about to run one on Thursday nights. Saw a story that
"Ugly Betty" tested so well ABC gave it a better day and time. Its a
adapted from a South American show. Supposed to start 9/28.

One of my Toastmaster friends watches them regularly, in Spanish. Of
course, she speaks Spanish, so that helps. ;-)
I used to listen to soap operas on the radio, then for several years I
watched them on TV. I outgrew them a long time ago.

A telenovela is a thirteen week soap opera, then it is done and a new
one is shown.
