My 77 year old mother told me to watch the mail because my 85 year old
father was sending me a ft. I didn't think too much about it because he sometimes does this. But not on this scale. I opened the box to one of the most beautiful diamond necklaces you have ever seen. I just burst out crying. Dad is 85 and ornery as a snake but he has his soft side too. He's the one that nicknamed me Janie though sometimes I have to use my legal name. Here is a pic of the necklace,the one on the left. I called him and tearfully thanked him. Dad and I have never been really close but have gotten a little closer these last few years. I told him I only tease about diamonds. He said he knew that but when he saw this one,he just knew I would love it. I said,"Now for the matching earrings" and he just laughed and laughed. Dad also,about 20 years ago,gave me his treasured antique book cabinets. I couldn't believe it but he said he wanted them to stay in the family. There is some discussion in the family about the bookshelves. My cousin says they are hers,that Dad was only keeping them until she could get a place big enough to hold them. I said,"Well,you been lining in the same house for 30 years,Kate. And now,because Dad is 85,you just "remembered" they were yours?" I told her to just try and get them away from me and REMINDED her my Dad is not gone yet. He vows to live to 90! lol Janie Jean B....
