Arch (TX)...
That is one I have not seen, "Driving Miss Daisy". I have heard that it
was a great movie. I will try to remember to get a copy of it soon.
I was watching the Golden Globe Awards tonight, and it reminded me of a
couple of my favorite movies about growing older -- 1) On Golden Pond

Yoj...
Yes, it is great! I've never seen On Golden Pond.

and 2) The Five People You Meet in Heaven. Anyone else have any
favorite "old age" flicks?

Some of my favourites:
Also On Golden Pond, Dances with Wolves,
Forrest Gump, Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Cafe,
Hear no Evil See no Evil and believe it or not: The Lion King.

Chakolate...
I believe the Lion King because one of my favorites is The Little
Mermaid. :-)

If you liked the video Fried Green Tomatoes, be sure to read the book -
it was even better, but had totally the same feel to it.

I have all of these on VCR. And yes you... I BOUGHT THEM!

Sue...
Having nothing else to watch, last week, I renewed my relationship with
Forrest Gump. what a delightful movie.

That is another one I have not seen. I have so much about it but never
saw it. Another buy-it it appears. LOL

Yoj...
I have that one on tape. I'll have to run it again sometime soon.

Chakolate...
And will buy them again, this time in DVD format, when VCRs go out of
style. Sigh.

Chakolate, who paid $4 in the 70's for a Roberta Flack vinyl and $16 in
the 90's for the same album on CD

Jean B....
Maybe we need to make our own CDs from the records, but I
guess that's not legal?

Chakolate...
It is legal, at least until the RIAA gets their way. I just didn't have
the equipment in the 90's.

Jean B....
I just heard of a turntable with a USB connection, so you can
make CDs:

Chakolate...
You really don't need much hardware, just the proper cables to connect
your turntable's output to the computer, and the software to convert the
analog to digital. Audacity is great, and it's free.

Jean B....
Wellll, you can't beat THAT price.... And I already have a
turntable.

david...
there is a disagreement on that concept, jean. one point of view is that
you bought the rights to hear the music and if you choose to switch
formats, that's your choice. what would be illegal is to give copies to
friends. and there's no real problem that i'm aware of on VHS movies. the
new dvd/vcr/recordable machines have one-button copy of vhs to dvd. dalin
and i were just looking at them yesterday. current price is approx $225,
but that'll likely drop.

it's much like the software debate. did you buy the product or lease it?
if you own the vhs movie, then you can switch to a new format because it
wasn't the format you really wanted, it was the movie. and if you don't
own the vhs movie, but only leased the right to view it, you have the
same argument. i'm no lawyer, but it will be interesting to see this
issue unfolds. making you pay for the same music or movie in different
formats begs the whole issue of what you're paying for and who owns it.

for example, i know people who make copies of CD music that they
especially value. they use the backup much as you would a backup of
software - for insurance. this saves them from buying the same CD later
because the first one got a scratch on it...

just my thoughts...
