I really like the Cabot 50 percent Light Cheddar!
Sue...
|
So do I. That's a great cheese.
I didn't think that anything "light" could taste so good. I also have found
cheddar/pepper cheese in the light verson. But, sigh! I don't remember
where I bought it and haven't been able to find it since then. Duh!

Yes, the same goes for me. The few times I ate veal before I found out how
the calves are treated, I found it rather bland and tasteless, so it didn't
really take an act of self-sacrifice to give it up. In my own defense,
although I do eat steak and hamburger, I don't eat a lot of it. I get a
Mickey D's burger a couple times a week, and have steak maybe five or six
times a year.

But it's true. Photos don't lie.

Dalin,
**Dalin**...

Oh I don't eat lamb chops. Don't they come from grown up lambs?
|
They may have set up the whole thing just to get photos.
Even if they are real photos, that's just ONE place.
Haven't you ever seen pictures of people who had 100 cats and dogs living in
a house ?
That's not the normal, it's just one case in a million.
Those animal rights groups will do anything to get you to donate to them.
Then they can pay themselves $100,000 per year and give $28.75 a year to
help the animals.

Sorry, Chak. We live on a pasture. And that is a newborn calf. I luv
the cows.....especially the little ones. I talk to them when I walk by the
pasture.
And....they don't always answer, but they do listen.
Chakolate...

Ooh, cool. I could tell it was a baby something, just not what.

Oh, but they do. Even if the photo is undoctored, photos can give
severely false impressions.
One animal activist on campus a few years ago gave me a pamphlet showing
pictures of abused animals. One was of a cow with a terrifically swollen
udder who had been given BGH. It looked terribly painful. But I know
that a cow that is in discomfort stops producing milk, which is the last
thing a dairy farmer wants.
Another picture was of a chicken whose feet had grown around the perch
she was on, because she never moved. But if you know chickens, you know
that their idea of heaven is to just stand there and have food brought to
you on a conveyor belt.
So even though the pictures were probably not photoshopped, they
certainly weren't representing the whole truth.

I'm glad to hear they stay with the moms that long. When my daughter was in
4-H, I learned that kids are taken away from milk goats about 3 or 4 days
after they are born. I assumed it was the same with cows. I heard that
about the veal many years ago, and it was definitely here in the U.S. I
don't know if the same practice is still followed, but since I never really
cared for veal anyway, it's easy for me to avoid it.

I was thinking it was a bit late but your winter doesn't come as early
as ours.

I don't think it matters! If you remember....I was so worried about the
little one born in the feezing weather last year.

Since we've heard so much about the cows, I'm guessing it's a calf.

Well, one of the dividends seems to be a longer life span. Whether that's
good or bad remains to be seen. ;-)
Jean B....
|
But is that because of food additives, etc., or medical
advances? And our long lifespans come with costs--in the form
of age-related diseases (not that one would want a shorter life).

That was my logic too, but I really couldn't tell.

It was a little on the dark side, I couldn't quite make it out.

Sue...

No...he/she was all curled up. And the flies were bothering it so much. I
spoke to it and it's little ears wiggled but it didn't raise it's head.
Probably too tired from all that birthing!
Anyway... he will probably be someone's veal scalapini in a few days.

And the Cabot Horseradish is fantastic! Our local store often has a
Cabot two for one sale and we always get the horseradish and the extra
sharp cheddar.
|
Jean B....
|
I think I have some of that right now! You sure don't miss
the extra fat, so why not? :-)

Jean B....

You have just reminded me of their Chipotle Cheddar. Yum!
Wish they mad light versions of all of these.

Jean B....

But they can and do lie. Now, with computers, it seems very
easy to fake photos.
**Dalin**...
|
But there are so many of them! Who would take the trouble to fake
twenty or thirty pictures? I have read for years how veal is made and
the cruelty to the animals to get that white meat.
|
|
|
How beautiful. Why does the picture make me want to cry?
Anne Jackson...

Evening, Dalin! I was just wondering where you were.... ;-)
