ok, confession time... I use JiffyLube routinely, in between full
checkups and inspections. I'm in and out within 20 minutes or so and the
price is always reasonable. I stay with the car and, yes, they always
offer a bunch of services, but I have read the owner's manual and what
they offer are legit services - but the owner's manual specifies they're
only needed if car is in extreme service (such as pulling a logging
trailer through the sahara desert....) so I say 'no'...
there's a dealer - 12 miles each way and normal turnaround time for an
oil change is 2-4 hours... no way....
I will also state that we get great service from our local Monro shop.
been going there for several years and receive good treatment and prices.
that's where I take our cars for inspection, tuneups, repairs, mufflers,
whatever... :)

I always offer folks like that a tip. They often refuse, but their time
is worth something. I also ask for some of their business cards to
hand out.

You have to be really careful with all those big chains. I took my car
to a Precision Lube, and it took them three hours to change the oil, they
failed to replace the oil cap, and they charged my credit card $531 for
what was supposed to be $31. Oh, sure, I believe it was just a 'clerical
error', right, I sure do.

Hmmm. That's a good reason to pay cash!
