Just put it on the bed....going down to 44 degrees tonight....I love my
comforter, it's so light weight and toasty warm.

I love down comforters because they are so nice and light but they are
too warm for me. I sleep with a light weight acrylic blanket spring,
summer and fall. It's about time to add the light weight wool blanket
for the winter.

We sleep with a lightweight acrylic blanket on top of the sheet, then
one velux blanket when it gets colder, then we add another velux
blanket when it gets really cold and a quilt on top of that.
Sometimes it all gets very heavy!
**Lin**...
|
Exactly! And if you get warm and throw a couple of them down by your
feet it feels like you have bricks on them.
|
Jean B....
|
That's the advantage of down. They are very light--although
some of the covers make them heavy.
**Lin**...
Joy...
|
That's why I like an electric blanket. It isn't heavy at all, and if you
get warm, you just turn it off.
|
|
But they are very warm. So you either keep it on or throw it off and
then get cold unless you have blankets underneath the down. Then you
would REALLY be warm!

So nice & warm, like Arch, our kitty enjoys sleeping on it...stay warm

Arch (TX)...

You are so lucky, you must be rich. I have to try to snuggle in between
my two cats to get warm.
**Lin**...
Jean B....
|
But there are different weights. Mine is very light and not
ultrawarm.
|
Jean B....
|
Ten pounds doesn't feel too good balanced on my shins!
|
|
One dog in the small of your back can sure add a lot of heat too. :-)
Jean B....
|
I find that cat warmth more welcome during certain times of
the year. But I never try to encourage Mingy to go elsewhere.
Chakolate...
Jean B....
|
I don't think I'd like to see my breath inside! Eeeek, Chak!
Maybe you feel some kinship with our forebears who lacked
central heating? Hmmm, now I am thinking of bed warmers and such.
|
|
Doc is self-regulating in that respect. If it's cold, he wants under the
covers. If it's cool, on top is fine. If it's hot, he's in the far
corner of the bed. :-)
Isn't it amazing how long a cat can be smothered by thick layers of
covers and not be any the worse for it?
Chakolate...
|
Yeah, when Doc first did it, I kept waking up during the night making
sure he was still alive. After a while I stopped worrying about it.
|
Jean B....
|
That, minus the possible smothering part, sounds smart! I
haven't observed any such thing here. Nor does Mingy get
under the covers. Sniff!
Chakolate...
|
You're just not keeping the joint cold enough. Get it down into the low
50s or upper 40s and watch them crawl in with you. ;-)
Jean B....
|
Ah, I guess 55F doesn't cut it. I just might lower the temp
this winter....

I just bought one which I will put on my bed after Bette leaves unless I
find she would like to have it on the bed while she is here. I haven't had
one for years because I didn't trust that Cowboy wouldn't chew the wires. I
guess neither one of your cats cause hot spots on it. I can't stand the
weight of too many blankets on my feet any more.
**Lin**...
|
I'd love one too but I'm afraid David would chew the wires in his
sleep.
Joy...
|
LOL! A dual control electric blanket was the perfect answer for Jim and me,
because he never wanted as many blankets as I did.
|
Lin
|
|
|
Of all the cats I've had, only one of them would stay under the covers for
any length of time. One or two would go under briefly, but soon popped out
again. When Tawny was a kitten, on cold nights he'd wake me up by tickling
my nose with his whiskers. I'd lift up the edge of the covers and he'd dive
under, and stay there for the rest of the night.
Jean B....
|
How sweet! I wonder how they discover this is a
possibility--and desirable?
Beth...
|
Well, I only have one cat, so I would only be half warm...good thing I have
my comforter for winter.
Beth

**Lin**...

We had a dual control too but when David got warm in the middle of the
night instead of turning the heat down he would throw the blanket off
on his side, doubling it down by his legs and then laying on top of
the blanket. It got so hot I was afraid it would catch on fire. So
we ditched the blanket. :-( I loved it and so did the cats.
Lin
Joy...
|
Yes, my cats love mine.
Jean B....
|
Speaking o' such, I am thinking of keeping the house even
colder than usual this winter. I assume one can get heated
pads or beds for cats? I don't know how the cold temp might
affect the babies otherwise.
Joy...
|
You can also get a reflective pad that will reflect the cat's body heat back
to them. Mindy may or may not like it. I got one for my cats, who wouldn't
have anything to do with it. I gave it to my daughter, and her cats fight
over it.

i shouldn't complain, i guess... i routinely digest pillows, blankets
and have been known to sleepwalk to the fridge for a midnight sandwich
on occasion... :) and there's just something electric about chewing
wires...
david (who is always hot-wired when he's with dalin... )

We keep the house fairly cool during the day and turn the heat off at night
so we just bought new beds for the cats at Walgreen's that have higher sides
than most. They must be as warm and cuddly as they look because as soon as
the evening cool settles in (still having warm days in LV) they both use
them. Maggie seems to be an upstairs cat and Cool Whip has settled in
downstairs. She's older so maybe she wants to be closer to the bathroom at
night. :-)
Jean B....
|
Well, I'll scout around locally then. Would be nice if there
was some return policy though. :-)

they have something - probably a variety.
Jean B....
|
Thanks, Joy. Not fair for me to just don a sweatshirt and
long undies and not think of the critters.

Paco,.,....

I have a synthetic comforter. Maybe I will buy a down one to save on
heating bills in the winter. It doesn't get too cold here in the winter
and a down comforter will do. Besides the AC when put on "heat" gives
off a bad smell. Can you wash a down comforter in a washing machine and
dry it in a drier????
|
|
That's the problem with anything one gets for cats, isn't it?
Who knows whether the object will be the least bit
appreciated?
|
|
|
|
|
|
No, a good slave never discourages cuddling. It's a bit tough when I wake
mmj1...
|
LOL Somehow I can't picture that but I can picture Shadow doing it.
**Lin**...
Joy...
|
No, my cats haven't caused any problems at all. My mother preferred an
electric mattress pad.
|
|
Shadow's a LADY! She only chews on things she can steal like a
dropped pen. anything that falls on the floor is fair game, but if
it's already on the floor she ignores it. Except for the hearth
broom.

up in the night with one of them crammed up against each side of me. I do
some fearsome contortions to get out of bed, and usually just about the time
my feet hit the floor, so does the cat that was nearest to that side of the
Chakolate...

I used to feel that way - don't disturb the masters, at all costs. Then
I found out that they're more velcro than master, and if you do manage to
dislodge one, he will be right back.
If I get up at night, when I come back, Doc will be curled up right below
the pillow. It's the warmest spot, you know.

I have one that I got from a Great Friend last year. I don't put it on my
bed, but have it on my easy chair, along with my heating pad. It gets put
away for the summer, but it is back out again now as it has been in the 30's
in the Mountains.
