Why does everybody always say, "Turn up your speakers" when posting a url?
Frogman...
|
I think they actually mean, you need to have your speakers ON to view
the clip at it's best :-)
|
My speakers are set where I want them, thankyouverymuch. I used to follow
the suggestion to turn up my speakers, and every time I did so I regretted
it. I like music at a volume where I can hear it as music, not as noise
that hurts my ears.
Besides, it's rather insulting to assume that people don't know what volume
they can hear at. If I think I need to turn up my speakers, I can do it
without somebody telling me to.
End of rant.

heh. those were the words on an Army green TeeShirt that circulated in
the late 70's, early 80's.
In all it said:
SURVIVOR south east asian war games (and the dates)
Guys had them made special at the time.

Ah yes. Now I can picture a variant, like a band road tour
shirt, with various SE Asian locales as the venues....

I keep my speakers on mute but normally if I go to a url I hit the mute
on/off button on my keyboard so don't need to be told. However, I had to
laugh at how that upsets you. It's ok, Joy, a rant now and then is cleansing

Actually, it doesn't upset me any more, mj. The first couple of times, when
I got my ears blasted, it did. After that, I just found it mildly annoying.
For some reason I finally decided to post about it. Actually, I think my
annoyance with it started with those things Barry used to send. He'd always
say, "turn up your speakers", and then at some point something would jump
out at you with a loud scream. Having the speakers turned up made it worse.

to the soul.

Ah, well, that instruction would pertain to me. I normally
have my volume set very low--just loud enough so I can hear
email coming in, but not so loud that it is jarring. If I
want to listen to music or something, I do have to turn them
up. Your situation is entirely different, since you do listen
to you CDs all the time.... :-)

I was there flying C-130s from Feb. '67 to March '68. Maybe I flew
you somewhere!

Joy, I am one of those who never have their speakers on unless someone tells
me.

Further proof that we are sisters. LOL
Bur, Joy, I do need a reminder to turn them on, rather than "up". :)

It's the probleme at home, I like listen to music or TV but when the sound
is too loud I don't like that, but...but

Sorry to hear that, JD. But I'll bet you know whether or not you need to
turn up the speakers without somebody telling you to do it, right?
JD Cooper...

You'd be surprised how many times I have to re-do a page because I had
my speaks turned down or off... for one reason or the other.

My mother-in-law lived in an old neighborhood that gradually changed.
Apartment buildings began to replace the houses, right up to next door to
her. After people moved into the building next door, she used to
dumpster-dive there. I can't remember what else she found, but one thing
was an off-white fake fur coat. It had some black streaks on it, so
somebody had tossed it. She threw it in the washing machine, and it came
out like new. She gave it to me. I wore it for years. It was still in
perfectly good condition when I finally gave it to the Rescue Mission for
their thrift store.
I don't quite have the guts to go dumpster-diving myself, but I hate to see

Get a pole and put some kind of hook on the end, then you won't have to
actually get in the dumpster.

Yes, I understand that. I couldn't even go into that dumpster
to rescue the things I saw there. :-( It still makes me feel
a bit sick to think about that.
