One of the hurricane's name is Kirk! Now that's a double whammy if I ever
saw one!

If it is any consolation, our shelter received many pets from the hurricane
areas. It is a no kill shelter, so they were all adopted out, unless they
were ill.

That's good news. :-) And I understand the next time people have to
be evacuated by bus or boat they will be allowed to take their pets
with them.

Thank goodness for that! I wonder how many folks stayed
behind because they didn't want to abandon their animals?

Apparently a whole lot of them did. I remember stories about
rescuers, after the hurricane, going around in boats to take people
out of their flooded homes and they wouldn't leave if they had pets.

I so admire them for that. What a hard choice to make - not knowing what
would happen to you, not knowing what would happen to the pet you stayed
behind for.

I was going to make a joke about this, but if there was a hurricane
Kirk and it caused a lot of damage and loss of life I would feel
terrible knowing I had joked about it. I hope Kirk turns out to be a
little depression that fizzles out before it gets anywhere.
I was reading an article about New Orleans yesterday and it said there
were still fishing boats in the trees. And there is a highway in Fla.
that goes out to some island where people lived that has still not
been repaired. It's hard to imagine for those of us who have never
been in a hurricane that almost a year later so much remains to be
done to bring the area back to semi-normal.

maybe it's just me, but i would imagine that a hurricane named 'kirk' would
be mellow... bringing in a light refreshing breeze, possibly churning the
ocean water into a nice wine and dropping a few lobsters nearby for a
relaxing dinner... just hold out your glass and it'll fill with wine from
the sea... and the breeze through the trees will play a soft instrumental
of 'dancing in the dark' or 'thunder road' by youknowwho.... :)
makes you almost look forward with anticipation, doesn't it? :)
