I've developed a habit of eating pineapple chunks with my lunch. The other
day, instead of a can of chunks, I accidentally opened a can of crushed
pineapple. Does anybody have any good, simple recipes, with not too many

How do they work? Do you know?

I searched the web for 'tankless water heater' and found this site:
which gave some interesting information. Including the fact that you can
set how hot you want the water to be. That would be super, because most
of the time we heat the water, spending energy, then have to mix it with
cold for the shower because it's *too* hot. It's really very

That would be great! I always have trouble getting the water the right
temperature. I'll definitely look into it when I need to replace my current
water heater. I use natural gas already, so that wouldn't be a problem.

Joy,
They make 2 types.
One with a 5" chimney.
This one is cheaper but not everyone has a 5" chimney nearby.
The other has has a power vent on the flue.
This one only needs a 3" flue and the flue can run out the wall.

We have our heater turned on "low" and the temp is perfect when the
hot water faucet is turned on all the way.

Joy,
A normal water heater flame is 30,000 to 40,000 BTU's.
A on-demand water heater's flame is 125,000 to 250,000 BTU's.
A normal water heater takes time to heat the water.
That is why they have a tank....to store heated water because the fire can't
keep up with the demand..
The on-demand water heater has a copper pipe that runs back and forth over
the top of the flame.
Because the flame is 4 to 6 times as hot as a normal water heater, it can
heat the water as it passes through the heater.
Even though the tankless heater uses 3-4 times as much gas when it is
running, it is only running when the hot water is on, so it still save gas.

I should point out a downside.... If you lose your power for
awhile, you will have no stored hot water. That is one reason
why I opted to install a tank and not just use the tankless

Mine is connected to the furnace, which is dependent on

heater.

Our tankless hot water heater delivered hot water just as fast
as one gets it from the tank. The only lag is getting it from
the location of the device/tank to the faucet.

I really need to read up on these things!

I hate to schedule exercise, too. Neither Jim nor I have a weight problem

just try to eat sensibly.

ingredients, or ideas of how to use it? I eat pineapple chunks as they are,
but I don't want to do that with the crushed.

My folks always ate crushed pineapple with cottage cheese, rather than the
peaches that I see most other people eat. It's also an interesting addition

to coleslaw.
But here's the recipe for dad's favorite cookies. They're cake-like, and
better if you add chopped walnuts. I think the "small" can of crushed
pineapple is one size smaller than the 15 oz. can, however many ounces that
is. (This is kind of a "you either love them or hate them" recipe.) You
just mix them up the same way you would any cookie.

This isn't a matter of pipes. There's something that looks
almost like a little tank near the furnace. Lemme see if I
can find some info and, perhaps, a pic.
Oh! First, Chak should look into some of the gizmos pictured
here. They look like they could be just what she's looking for!
Chakolate...

Heavens, I didn't know they were so affordable. Thanks, Jean.
|
Hmmm. None look like ours. I may just have to take a pic.
Does that mean I have to dust it off first?
**Dalin**...

LOL! Depends on how much dust there is. We do want to be able to see
it.

Put it on ice cream. :-)

That's two votes for ice cream. Maybe I'll try that.

True enough. I won't buy it at all.

I just saw a cooking show today that combined fresh pineapple with ginger
and served it over ice cream. I wasn't paying that much attention, so I
don't know how much ginger.

Eat it with cottage cheese. Or Use Paco's suggestion. Buy a bottle of
pina colada mix and just don't add alcohol. :)
or for a crowd
1 pkg lemon jello
1 pkg lime jello
2 cups hot water
Mix, let thicken, whip and add:
1 can crushed pineapple
1 cup evaporated milk (*Not* sweetened condensed milk)
1/2 mayonnaise
1 cup cottage cheese
2 tbsp horseradish
1/2 cup chopped nuts (optional)
Chill in a bowl or ring mold.
Joy...

Wow! That's different! Horseradish?
I used to make a Jell-O salad using lime Jell-O, crushed pineapple and
cottage cheese. I'd forgotten it until I saw your recipe.
Horseradish? Really? ;-)

Why not? Assuming it's just one can not a case. It would be good over ice
cream. I like pineapple and cottage cheese. Don't usually have it crushed
but don't think it would make a big difference to me.

Yum...that sounds soo good...will have to give that a whirl, Norma...
I, too, was thinking of cottage cheese with a little mayo on top. Also how
about pizza? I really like Hawaiian pizza with canadian bacon, onions and
pineapple...getting hungry w/this talk of food and dinner's another
2-1/2hrs...lol..

2 tablespoons isn't really that much and it just does a little
something extra to the flavor.
Chakolate...

Two tablespoons is a *lot* of horseradish. Do you mean just plain
chopped horseradish, or some sort of horseradish sauce?

Norma

I'm just funny that way. I'm fussy about textures. I like the texture of
pineapple chunks, but not of crushed. I do like it in my famous frozen
cranberry salad, but I can't really tell it's there.

Joy there are several recipes which use crushed pineapple in a cheese
ball. You could use it for that and serve it at your next trivia night.
If you need the recipe - let me know and I will send it along.

That sounds like a great idea, Linda! Yes, please send me the recipe.

Thanks, Marilee. That sounds like a good recipe.
BTW, I'll try to always stop and think about spelling your name. My
mother's best friend is named Marylee. ;-)

Regular horseradish, not the creamy sauce. It truly isn't that much
when it's combined with six or seven cups of other ingredients. :)
Norma

At least if you spell it that way you'll be closer to the correct
pronunciation. I keep having to remind myself, and I've known her for
yonks.
