david...
did you ever notice... football coaches are brutally honest on game
performance assessment. I wish our politicians and others in authority
had their courage... look at the writeup after virtually any college-
level football game and the losing coach is never bitter, never
complaining. instead, they highlight the skills of the individual players
on the opposing team and admit where their own team failed. that's
courage. and I have high respect for anyone who can openly compliment the
winning team with no insults or complaints.

if i'm honest with myself, I'd probably not make a good college football
coach. on losing, i might be tempted to say such stuff as "well, they
were bigger - they get paid under the table -- they cheated - they used
12 men on key plays, etc., etc...." yes, the people who are paid to
coach and admit where their team lost, assuming full responsibility with
no buck-passing are men of honor and i respect them.

Of course, there's also the buffalo bills, who LOST today to chicago by
FORTY to 7.... i'm not sure they even showed up... :) if I were the
buffalo coach, I would be strongly tempted to say --- "we were sick, we
felt insecure, the chicago team members are bullies, we lost our box of
cheerios, my mom told me to not get hurt, they cheated.."

But, the buffalo team is a team of honor.. here is the quote from their
website on their embarrassing loss:

"It was a beautiful day for football in Chicago, but the sun rarely shone
on the Bills at Soldier Field Sunday. Five turnovers, poor field position
and a handful of penalties only made a tough game against a very good
Bears side more difficult, as Buffalo was humbled by Chicago 40-7."

that's honor. that's a tribute to the opposition. and i admire them for
that.

JD Cooper...
I don't *do* professional sports, but It's nice to see someone be
gracious about a loss and place credit where credit is due and accept
poor performance on their own part.

david...
yeah!!! wouldn't it be great if we could get some coaches to run for
office?... LOL... I know politicians will make blunders... that's life...
but it would be so great if they would just admit them and say how to move
forward... :) and then maybe we'd have a new washington vocabulary.
instead of saying a bill was in committee, we could say it was on 2nd and
15.... :) or first and goal... yeah, i like that..

JD Cooper...
*sighs*

Don't hold your breath.

Jean B....
For some reason, I can imagine this as an Andy Rooney
piece.... I hope you recognize that as a compliment!

**Dalin**...
Uh David, that is their public personna. I'd hate to hear the talk
they give the team later.
