A Swim

We never swam in a Florida pond
Of unseen alligators we weren't too fond

Today we swam in a mountain lake
Fresh cold water eased every ache

Memories of Michigan summers when I was a teen
Returned and I forgot places I had bean

Midwestern lakes in the hot summertime
Brought me to the tops of cliffs I would climb

"Watch this!" I'd shout
Hoping some girls were about

A jackknife, a twist, a back flip, I'd try
Hoping some girls would be passing by

For a while I was Tarzan swimming to save Jane
In the mountain lake, my memories came.
