Priest given ticket

For parking in an ambulance zone when he was giving the last rites to a

people are strange... in a town near where we live, a woman had been
teaching church school for 54 years at a particular church. she had
attended there for 60 years, been married there, children married there,
etc... and she was fired this week because the new minister doesn't
think women should be allowed to teach... our local paper gave the story
the front page and a full page inside. just unreal.

Wow! What a blow to her. I'd ask if she was going to defect,
but she must be pretty elderly. No real good way to deflect
that hurt.

you're right, jean. she's been offered teaching positions at approx 5+
other local churches, but she's hurt (and probably d*mn mad, too.)

It's not just your local paper - it's been all over the web. Apparently,
the bible says something about women not being teachers to men.

LOL... the bible says almost anything you want it to say - if you're
careful in selecting your text... .... what I would find insulting
is that the minister OK'd her teaching women... that is saying far more
than that women shouldn't teach men... if a person shouldn't teach one
gender, why allow them to teach the other? if their knowledge is
insufficient to lead one group, why let it mislead (in his opinion) the
other group? much of my background coped with this attitude, but this was
a startling item to read. and i know folks here don't want a religious
debate and i have no intention of that.. my post was only on the
absurdity of reversing - rather, attempting to reverse, what a person has
done successfully for 54 years... it could have been almost any
profession... just absurd. and she was quite educated and was the
retired director of some social support organization (IIRC)

Yes. It reminded me of the cartoons where some animal was flying quite
well until somebody told it that that particular species can't fly, and
it then drops out of the sky.

that applies to people, too... telling people that they can't do a
particular task well will often cause them to believe it and to stop. tell
children that they can't draw, can't sing, can't dance, can't play an
instrument and they will soon stop and never be able to do it.
