As I have probably mentioned before, I host a group that gets together once
a month to play team Trivial Pursuit. Yesterday evening was the date of the
get-together. We start with a potluck, and I provide beverages and try to
have enough of the important things so that no matter what people bring,
we'll have enough to eat. This time I had lasagna (Marie Calendar's frozen)
and brownies (from Smart & Final) as well as my frozen cranberry salad.
Last night I was expecting five people. Actually, I wasn't sure about two
of them, since the wife had been sick a couple of days earlier, but I hoped
they might come. I straightened up the place, fixed the table and got the
food ready. Then I got two phone calls. One woman had a sinus infection
and wouldn't be coming. Another didn't want to drive the 10 miles or so in
the heavy rain. That left two who had said they would come and the two I
wasn't sure of. One of the ones who had said he'd come had 15 or 20 miles
to come, so he called to make sure it was still on. I told him I wasn't
sure but was hoping. I tried to call the others, but didn't get an answer
from either. He decided to wait and see if anybody else came.
Finally one other person came, so I called the man who had called me, and he
came. It turned out to be just the three of us, but we had a good time.
One of them brought a lovely fruit salad, and the other brought sushi.
There weren't enough of us to play in teams, so instead of Trivial Pursuit,
we decided to play a word game called Palabra. They both enjoyed the game,
and one plans to buy it.

I'm doing an extra one on New Years Eve. It will be interesting to see how
many people, if any, show up.
I would have been pretty bummed if I'd gone to all that work and nobody
came, but I was happy with the way it turned out, especially since they
helped me with part of the cleanup, and the leftover fruit salad was left

Well you won't have to cook this week. I used to play Trivia Pursuit a lot
but it's been so long ago I would probably not know a thing. Every now and
then I do well when watching Jeopardy but then the next night I don't know a
dang thing. Sometimes when someone comes up with answer to a question I
don't even understand I think the person must be weird to know the answer.
Only teasing about "the person"...sort of.
