Pac....
Here are all the different types of squash there are....

Verity...
I bought a butternut last week but it's been so hot here, that we've
all been eating salads.
I usually cut in two, bake, slice & present with a little smear of
butter & sprinkle of herbs & spices.
I haven't worked out yet, which are the best herbs/spices to compliment
the taste of it because we have it very rarely.
Any suggestions?

Lou...
Brown sugar or maple syrup.

Verity...
I'll try maple syrup, not had any in the house for years, used to love
it on pancakes & since visiting the states the kids made me buy a
waffle machine, so would also be good on those -yum, thanks :)

Norma...
I usually peel it, cube it, nuke it, drain it, mash it. Flavor it with
a dab of butter, some maple syrup, a touch of cinnamon and a dash of
onion powder. (someday I'll try measuring. )

Verity...
Reading the posts in this thread is certainly doing wonders for my
appetite ;)
I'll try cinnamon, I love the taste.

Bigbazza...
Here in Oz (Australia) ...We call 'Butternut' ...Pumpkin..(One of a few
variety of Pumpkin)....We always use it when we have a 'Baked' Meal..Like
when Baking a Chicken or Beef, of Lamb...I cut it about the size one would
cut a Potato to when baking that !... I never remove the skin on any pumpkin
when baking !...I love the skin with it..Many don't and they either remove
the skin before baking it or after ..As Butternut is so soft..It helps to
keep it together when baked !

Either Bake it in oil with the rest of the veggies or if you prefer to cook
with less Oil...do so..I sometimes just 'Spray' it with an can of oil...(I
only ever use 'Olive Oil' when I cook ..unless it is 'Chips'..Then I use
'Canola Oil' ....

Verity...
BTW sorry, I forgot to add, thanks so much for posting the link, I've
bookmarked it. Verity.

Crusher...
Come to the Ohio State Fair in Columbus the first week in August and you can
see at least 90% of the squash in that list.

Verity...
I bet that's great, I love going to County Fairs here. I'm hoping to
tour all over the States, when my youngest reaches 18 & I retire - 7
years time :)
