Hi...With it being for me, just 2 Day's until the event.. (sorry folk..you
will be
still sleeping when I over stuff myself) I was wondering how other's of my
friends here celebrate Christmas ..and what is on the menu for you....
I will be having Christmas Dinner (at Lunch) at my oldest Daughter's
In-Laws.. I have done so since my wife (Helen) passed away back in Sept
88'...She used to have a great 'cook up' along the old lines of my English
heritage....Hot everything...It was great..and delicious as well...
Times have changed though...We do live in a 'Hot' climate here in Oz.. The
reverse to the 'Northern Hemisphere... (some of us celebrate the old
traditional Christmas in Oz during 'July')
At Christmas time now it is as follows .. We go to church at the earliest
service then head home to my oldest Daughter's home and see what Santa has
brought the kids...We then go down to the in-laws (virtually around the
corner).. and have beginner's .Pate and dips on biscuits with a glass (or
2) of Champer's and then at around 2 pm we will all sit down to a sumptuous
meal of Boiled Whole Salmon , and cold Chicken and Turkey ..Also some prawns
and other seafood that has been cooked on the 'Barbie'..Not forgetting the
cold ham and the warm roast pork with crackling.. I supply that myself.. I
don't particularly like cold pork... There will be numerous salads and warm
Potato dishes as well.. Then for sweets there will be 'Warm Plum Pudding
with brandy butter sauce and different Ice Creams.. All this will be washed
down with both White and Red wines plus a few bottles of 'Champaign..We then
retire to have a rest (and sleep) for us oldies and we then get up and start
all over again for the rest of the families that were at the various in-laws
for lunch...
Now ..How about you other's ..

That sounds like quite a feast, Barry. Maybe you could have
the traditional English fare about 6 months from now?

Sounds like a wonderful day, we start ours with a big breakfast. omeletes,
pancakes, bacon, sausage, cinnamon rolls, etc. My sister in law and her
husband, my son his girl friend and daughter all come, along with the son
that still lives at home. After breakfast we open presents. in the afternoon
we go to my brother's house, my sisters house, and my mother's house. We
bring my Mother home for a roast beef dinner, and then have a few friends
over in the evening. On Wednesday we get to do it all over again when the
rest of the family arrives from out of state! Hope you have a very enjoyable
Christmas, and that Santa is good to you!

We are just a small group of four so our meal plans are simple. Christmas
Eve we are having meat loaf, salad and custard. Christmas morning three of
us will have brunch of fruit, scrambled eggs, bacon, and fried potatoes
w/onions and English muffins if anyone has room. The missing one has to work
in the morning so will come over around 2 o'clock. We'll open presents and
then off to the movies to see "Dream Girls" which opens Christmas Day. The
theatre is at a hotel so following the movie we will have dinner there. The

Our Christmas is pretty laid back and simple. None of us are early risers.
My son and I both live less than an hour's drive (on Christmas Day - the
rest of the year traffic makes the drive longer) from my daughter's house,
where we gather. We get there about 10 AM. After each of us has had a
chance to put our offerings in the stockings, we sit down and empty the
stockings, showing everybody what we got.
Then we have breakfast, which consists of my homemade cinnamon bread (which
is rising as I write). After the breakfast mess is cleaned up, we open our
gifts, one at a time, rotating from youngest (my son) to oldest (me) until
all gifts are opened. Then we clean up that mess and see what needs to be
done toward the dinner. If the turkey isn't already in the oven, my
daughter puts it in. The pumpkin pie and frozen cranberry salad I made are
taken out of the freezer at the appropriate time. We don't eat dinner until
4 or 5, so we usually have time to play a game or take a nap in the
afternoon. One thing we've always done on past Christmas afternoons, but
won't be doing this year, is calling my mother so we could each wish her a
Merry Christmas.
We have turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes and gravy (making the gravy is my
job), some form of sweet potatoes, homemade cranberry sauce and rolls (made
by my son-in-law), and usually a salad and/or green veggie. My daughter
usually invites a few friends to join us for dinner. We generally wait a
while for the dinner to settle before eating the pie. Sometimes we play
another game after dinner.
